Title: Crosman Nitro Venom or Vantage NP
Post by: LAalex on December 05, 2012, 12:12:26 PM
I decided to wait until spring to buy a CO2(QB) so I'm thinking about an NP gun and have it narrowed down to the Nitro Venom or the Vantage NP.  I'd appreciate any comments and experiences, especially  with regard to accuracy.

Thanks,
Scotty

I have the Vantage NP.  Looks like with the venum you get a weaver/Pic rail, vs dovetail, and fake shroud.   I haven't had an issue using a 1pc dovetail scope mount, but a weaver/pic is better.  The venum stock looks a little better than the vantage.

The scope is the same on both, and wasn't happy with it on the NP.  I have a 3X9X40AO on it now.

Plan for a GRTIII trigger with either.

I think the Vantage NP is the lowest price crosman NP.

Thanks FG.  That's kinda how I had it figured.  I have a set of Weaver rings on hand.  I know what you mean about the stock.  I have a Crosman Optimus and it is in a Phantom stock.  My groups shrunk by 1/2 when I switched.  I have another Phantom stock that I could drop the Vantage, but the Weaver rail is a big + for me.  BTW, how's your accuracy?

Thanks,
Scotty

Just my 2 cents, but I love my CNVD! At first i thought the accuracy wasn't quite there until I switched to heavier pellets.  Wow! It is my back door gun.  Neighbors cant here me and I live in a townhouse.  Anything I can see from my back porch, I can take out with the CNVD.  Hope it helps!

Oh yeah, and either way you go, Charlie's trigger is a must!  Night and day difference!

Accuracy is decent now, but the weather turned cold, and have not shot groups past 36 yds.  It is not as good as my marauder, even at 10 yds.  The marauder stacks pellets, the np makes a rough single hole.  If I was home in ny, and not in mn, I'd post some groups.

Thanks for the replies guys.  James, I was planning on the heavies as my Phantom loved H&N Barracuda match(10.65 gr.).  I think I'll also give the heavy JSB's a go.  My Optimus, for a time, shot beautifully with JSB 15.9's--velocity was low but it really thumped squirrels-that soft lead packs a punch.  I have put GRTIII's on both the Phantom and the Optimus and love both.  Last question: How noticeable is the difference between the NP and conventional coil spring?

Thanks again,
Scotty

I have a Niro Venom Dusk I love it ,it has a Center point 3x9 AO mill dot on it and shoots great. I'm shooting 1/2 inch groups at 35 yards and can hit  the bottom of a coke can at 65yards,,  I have never shot the Vantage  .

Just an update with the CNVD. I just picked up some of the Beeman Silver Arrow's yesterday, and she LOVED them!  I think I found my go to ammo.  She was shooting CP Ultra Magnum's fine, but I wanted more knockdown and penetration. I know every airgun differs with her preferences, but it ain't a bad spot to start.
