1377's - Older vs newer

As some of you know, I am currently modding a "newer" 1377 (serial # 801BO2XXX ), with all the typical .22 carbine upgrades.
I also have a "older" 1377 (serial # 591510XXX ), that does not pump up past 2 or 3 pumps.
The newer one is recieveing all the upgrades, and I plan on using left over stock parts, to "refurb" the older one.
now in reading some threads, I've seen mention of older ones having brass valves, where the newer ones have the steel valves.
I have also seen some guys say the older brass valve is better, and delivers more power.
Is this true ?,... Are the older brass valves really better ?,... if so, Why are they better ?
The reason I'm asking is this,
If my older 1377 has the brass valve, AND it delivers better performance,... then I'd probably want to swap it over, into my newer .22 carbine build, to accompany the FT piston. Right ?
or is this claim I've seen about the older brass valves being "better" than the newer steel valves, just a bunch of "Hog-Wash" ?

Hi there
Since you are modding your new gun, why not add a flattop valve and piston combo it will give you more power.
Then rebuild your old 1377 all the parts are available from Crosman and with some polishing and a good clean up you could have a stock gun that is better than new
and would make a great backup ( the parts are cheap) I think it was under 10 bucks to do the one I just did for my neighbor. it was still shooting but very rusty. It now is as good or better than new. Just my 2 cents worth

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm pretty sure the old one will be just fine with leftover parts from the newer one.
I'm just trying to figure out if I should swap the valves while I'm at it.
I already have a FT Piston from Mac1.
I will be modifying
one
of the 2 valves to match it.
That's why I want to know if the older brass valves are really better than the newer steel valves.
If the brass valves are
truely
better,... then that is the one that will get modified to match the FT Piston.

I had been planning on doing something similar. I've got two older (sliding breech) 1377 pistols. One is fine, the other has been turned into a smoothbore from endless BBs and darts. It also leaks after 2-3 pumps. Been thinking of buying a new 1377 for upgrading and salvaging parts. I'll just tag along here and learn from your mistakes.

Newer ones are aluminum, not steel I think. They tend to corrode and are not repairable generally. Good reason to pick up the older 1377's, if just for the valve. I rebuilt two a little while ago, quite old, and the valves were in excellent shape, tk
