donny they say the trigger is like 7lbs,because you cock it as you squeeze the trigger, you might want to look into a remfurbished 850 from agd 159.00 or a qb78 89.00 at archer air guns,or check with mike melick see it he can hook you up,i love my 850 hammerli in 22cal on co.2.i would only use the 1077 for birds myself, i know the 1077 is simi auto, but you loose power with co2 when shot rapid fire.i just learned that about co2,i use a 9 oz paint ball tank get 320 shots per tank before it weakens ,but good luck to you what ever you choose, hope this helped a bit .

As bad as the trigger is, my 1077 is very accurate, shooting Crosman Destroyer Ex pellets. I've taken starlings, ground squirrels and jack rabbits out to 20 yards. You will get about two mags of "good" shots from a 12 gr CO2 cartridge. If you can find one, get an AS adapter so you can hook up an 88gr cartridge. This will give you over 300 shots. The 1077 is a fun gun to shoot.

Im not very prolific as a writer, so I will touch the high spots....go to the Crosman forum for more detail and search 1077 mods...they can be improved signifigantly in operation, and slightly in power.
The problem is, like any other 65 dollar gun, its plastic....so much could be done with the platform if not for that.
Easily, you can:
Add weight to striker, this will give a little more velocity, but IMO wastes c02.
But every one should get some basic work.....the barrel is very thin, inside the shroud. They make aftermarket stabilizers to install around the bbl, inside the shroud. No need for that, electrical tape at the end of the bbl, and insulation packed in the shroud around the bbl will suffice and produce EXCELLENT accuracy, to the tune of...if I wait between shots, it will go shot for shot with my Daisy 953, which is very accurate.
Also polish the crown, this helps.
Cut a coil and a half from the trigger return spring, and reshape it to fit in its area. This will reduce trigger pull dramatically. Be generous in applying white lithium grease to the trigger contact points.
Make sure all seals are tight and good within the co2 system.
Short range, yes, a fine small critter, short yardage pest controller. These guns shoot the light pellets well, and light pellets are fine for short range stuff. AA Falcons are good, Diabolo Basics also. With the accuracy improvements, as so often is the case, your placement will make the kills, not the energy. Get a good 4X scope that is light, dont wanna overpower the rifle with scope. Mil dots are nice, as they can help with temperature fluctuations as well. I have an AS adaptor, but have never used it. It alone makes the rifle balance funny. But I hear they are good for MANY shots, and would probably improve power and consistancy.
I would say, 15 yds on fur, 25 on feathers. Even up close, probably wouldnt use it on things like groundhogs.
Where the repeat action shines is follow up shots, in case your first wasn't exactly where it needed to be, and the animal is wounded. Rapid fire with co2 is not good, but if you can hold your bead, 3 quick shots will usually hit close together.
Also, if muzzle report were reduced, it would be good for getting multiple pest birds at one sitting.
Once I put a little TLC into mine, it became VERY accurate. Not really powerful, but accurate.
And plinking is a blast.
God bless,
Farmer

I have used mine for short range hunting 15 yards or so and it is very accurate. The trigger is heavy but any good shooter can deal with it. My 12 year daughter also has one and she shoots it very good.
