I would reduce the pressure in the rifle and air tank just for the sake of additional safety margin and jus get the tank topped off upon arrival at your destination . Not science just my paranoia
I have a private aircraft and I typically cruise 8-12,000. I would like to transport my pcp guns and tanks when I visit friends or maybe even to Airgun events. Does anyone have any experience doing the same? Can I fill my small cf tank and gun to capacity? I want to avoid having to hunt down fill locations. I don't know enough about expanding gasses to know if it's safe enough. The brain trust on this forum is awesome so I thought I would ask. Thanks for any help.
Average sea level air pressure is about 14psi. Even if you went into space I don't think going from 14psi to 0psi is a big difference considering the pressure inside the tank. A potato chip bag containing a lower pressure, say, maybe, 20psi, a decrease in ambient pressure of up to 14psi can create a significant pressure difference and pop the bag. So in conclusion, air tanks are safe, potato chip bags are not.
