Point of diminishing returns for achieving higher energy with heavier pellets

I thought it was interesting to see how much of a difference there can be between various pellets. Same settings otherwise, these are the results I got with my Mrod shooting four different weight pellets for power:
Shot # Velocity Foot/Lbs Pellet/weight
1 763 63.335 Hunter Supply 49gr FP
2 825 65.282 Eun Jin 43.2 gr
3 871 57.184 JSB Heavy 33.95 gr
4 955 51.413 JSB Kings 25.39 gr
Bigger isn't always better
Curious as to which factors do you guys use for determining what pellet to use for the job at hand? Hunting? Fun shooting? Target practice?

As a rule
, PCPs are more efficient with heavier pellets/slugs. Not only do you
usually
get more FPE, but air consumption is usually more efficient too. Not always, but... Of course there are limits. It might be interesting to see your air gauge readings after shooting a full mag or two of each pellet you listed.

If you change the settings to launch that 49 gr. at a higher velocity, I think then you may well find it produces more FPE than the 43 gr. (also at the new setting, of course)... unless of course it is too tight in the bore and the extra friction prevents it.... I can give you a perfect example....
I have a regulated (to 1900 psi) 2560 HPA conversion that is set up for 25 gr. Kings at 960 fps (52 FPE).... If I try 50 gr. slugs, the power drops to just under 40 FPE.... However, if I lean on the RVA to the maximum preload, and crank the velocity up to 1050 fps on the Kings (62 FPE) I can now launch the 50 gr. slugs at nearly 800 fps (~ 70 FPE).... but man does it go through the air with either pellet when you run it flat out....
