Titan - before and after

Got my new trigger installed (thanks Charlie!). Stripped, sanded, stained, and sealed the stock. Upgraded the scope to a Leapers 3x9x50 A/O. Removed the muzzle break too. Looks like an entirely different gun and I am very happy with the way it turned out. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I can't wait. Sorry I don't have more or better pictures at this time.

Much better! I've seen some muddy finishes over the years but my Titans are the poster children for muddy! Tom

Thanks everyone! I took the break off because the two allen screws were not centered on the barrel. I just wanted to straighten it up. But when I removed it, I ended up liking the look and feel without it. Just a personal preference... Like the red I put on the butt stock shim. It might not be to everyone's taste, but I really like it.
To each their own.

No difference in the sound level without the muzzle break. On the Titan I think it is more of an aesthetics thing and/or a hand hold for cocking it. I removed it a while back actually and I don't miss it at all. For some reason I just prefer this gun without it. But I could always change my mind. You know how that goes...

Good job on the stock!
You inspired me to remove the muzzle brake from mine. There were marks from the set screws, but otherwise everything looked good. Crown looks great.
However, after a few test shots, I discovered that the POI climbed 2" @ 25 yards.
So, it may be there to help reduce muzzle flip, not just aesthetics. Regardless, I put it back on. POI returned to normal.

I hope she shoots as good as she looks. I did the same type of thing to my new Vantage. It is fascinating how the grain will take up a different stain and give the gun a completely new look. Yours looks beautiful.
Please tell us the stain/finish you used and how you plan on caring for the stock.
Oh yes. Better tell us how it shoots after you get it broken in.
Nice work!!!!

Wow, nice work on the stock. I was planning on refinishing the stock on mine, but I ended up giving it to my dad before I got around to it. I wish that I had after seeing this.

Yes, the POI changed on my gun after I took the muzzle break off too. However, once I re-zeroed my scope, it remained consistent and I have been using pennies for targets at 35 yards. And thanks to the Charlie's GRT III trigger, I rarely have to take a second shot at one of them.
For the stain I used Minwax Wood Finish (in a small can). I chose ebony as the color. Got it at Wally World. I put on a couple coats over a couple of hours and then let it set for 24 hours. Then I sealed it with Minwax polyurethane (the kind that comes in a spray can). I used the satin one because I prefer that look to the glossy finish. I put on about 5 or 6 light coats and then let that cure for 24 hours and then reassembled everything. Since the stock is now sealed, I can just wipe it down with a damp cloth if it gets dirty and there is no need to oil it or do anything else to it except enjoy it. Pics below of the two products.
Thanks again to everyone for all the positive comments and feedback.
Happy shooting!

That's exactly the same stuff and treatment I gave mine. I had a small can of Red Mahogany Minwax around and gooped on two coats overnight. Removed that and sprayed on three coats of the urethane. I used gloss! Six coats would have been better, but I'm just too darned impatient. Plus, I've never done something like this before and I figured more spray coats would just give me a better chance of having the final finish run or goop up.
Your gun finish is nice.
Pic's of my job are in the thread below. Those of you interested in stripping your gun might compare the two. The camera flash makes mine appear shinier than it really is. I still can't decide if I like the gloss more than the satin. Your satin looks mighty good.

@ Bryan - Wow, that is a great looking stock. Nice job! The grain is just beautiful. I wish my Titan had that kind of grain underneath the original finish. The gloss looks good too. I might have to try a gloss on my wife's Titan LV when (and if) I ever get around to refinishing it for her. The nice thing about the polyurethane finish is that if you get tired of the gloss, you can just coat it again with the satin finish or vice versa.

Looks good. I like the red, it fits.
The grain is probably pretty good under yours too. I refinished my Titan and at first
it looked kinda like it was plastic covered and when stripped it was actually pretty
nice. I also reshaped the grip and is more comfortable now.
Good job on your finish!!!
