Lousy Nitro piston longevity

My first break barrel gun was a Benjamin Titan .22 nitro piston. I got it for pesting and the only target shooting done with it was to get it sighted in. Over a 4 to 5 year period I put less than 500 pellets through it before the piston failed.
By the way, it seems the general consensus with gas ram guns is that they fail catastrophically, and don't lose power slowly. Not the case with mine. Before I got a chrony, I could tell it wasn't shooting as powerfully, and it seemed like it was getting easier to cock. Eventually it got to where pellets would ricochet off pine boards set up a mere 7 yards away. That's when I knew I had to replace the piston.
I replaced the piston this past summer (2016), and not long afterwards bought a chrony. I found the gun was shooting 14.3 grain CPHP's and Vortex 14.66 grains about the same speed, 694 fps, give or take, for a little over 15 fpe. Good enough for me.
Earlier this winter I decided to convert the gun to a .177 caliber since I was never really happy with the barrel and I already had another .22 and a .20 Sheridan. Using the airgun calculator on Pyramid Air's website I figured I'd get a little over 925 fps with 7.9 grain pellets. I didn't know that you'd lose fpe switching to a smaller caliber. I ended up getting 875 fps with the .177 caliber, and I was fine with that. That was about a month ago, and I hadn't shot that gun again until yesterday. Yesterday, I was only getting 830 fps with the same 7.9 grain CPHP's, so it looks like I'm starting to lose pressure slowly with this gas ram, too. I'm pretty sure I have shot less than 500 pellets with this ram, too. It's been about 8 months since I bought the ram. I doubt if Crosman would replace it after that amount of time.
Although they're fairly cheap to replace, this is way too fast a failure rate. Pretty disgusted at this point, and just blowing off some steam.

The first time I hit it, I missed. The second time I hit it in the same place.

Agree with your frustrations, been there, replaced mine also! The NP is likely Chinese produced and that's why they're priced like they are, so we get what we get.
I ordered 2 back when I replaced, the new one still seems to be good, though haven't shot it in months, and I never leave the gun cocked, even though some say you can on a NP.

I have both NP and NP2 rifles with over 15000 through each with zero ram problems. Just my experience.

I haven't had any problems with mine. A few more than 5000 rounds and going strong.

Had piston failure on my NPXL, then the replacement failed too. No more NPXL for me.

di am gonna do a 1700 shot checkin with my f4. shes shootin tighter than ever 1 "30yrds i am 5 weeks in with her and she is strong as when igot her!! She was a refurb from sportsman. I have a gamolaser sight on her and we are doing serious rat extermination in our hood. i have a b3 and a 2001 gamo220 hunter. This np is the best thing since white bread. the wayit cocks, fires,it feels during the wholeprocess. so far so good. My father and brother are avid spring men between them and me we got well over 100 yrs into air rifles. ihave only the f4 cannot wait toget another one. i hope np2s are as good as i here!!!!!!!!!
