Title: Benjamin Regal NP .22 cal. Black Sheep of the Family?
Post by: Redharris on April 01, 2012, 10:15:47 PM
So…I bought this Benjamin Regal NP rifle (.22 cal) from my buddy today for $100.
The Rifle is a BIG 5 gun. (Big5 is a sorting goods chain in 12 Western states).
My Buddy originally payed over $200 for this gun.  Apparently, he took some FLAK for buying this gun from some Yayhoos on some other forum. They convinced him it was a cheap immitation and that he should buy a “Real” air gun. He recently bought himself an RWS 48,,,,,and now he thinks he is an air gun Elitist, all of a sudden. Lol.

Anyway,,,,I can find virtually no info for this gun. Crosman shows an Owners manual for the .177 cal version, but no Parts breakdown. There is nothing for the .22 version.
I am not overly familiar with Crosman/Benjamin rifles, but it looks to me like it is a B@$tard version of the Trail NP XL 1000…..Or maybe the Remington NPSS….The stock is less fancy and the scope is even a step below the Trail NP’s,,,,It Has a Dovetail rail for scopes rather than the weaver rail that most new Benjis are sporting. It has a shrouded barrel that looks the same as the Trail NP and the Remington. The rear end of the Breech is rounded, like the Remington……

I am hoping that this gun has a standard Crosman trigger array, that can be replaced with a GRT –III, because that’s the only issue I have with this gun. The trigger feels like it pulls Forever and I cant tell the first stage from the second. Otherwise it shoots nicely, it is fairly accurate and it shoots 14.5 gr Crosman Premium pellets pretty hard.. I haven’t chrony’d the gun yet but I’d be surprised if its less than 800 fps…..

Any help with this gun will be appreciated…..Thanks.

Would be a nice project gun for the price you paid.  That is great and I too know nothing of this "Regal" other than it may be a a sub type sold only to a few select dealers.  Good luck and I am almost positive the CDT trigger will drop in.

As far as I know Big 5 is the only retailer. I have never seen them anywhere else.
Inside it's the same as all the rest of the Crosman "Nitro Piston" .
The Regal is Trail NP in a Different Stock.
730 FPS is what you can expect.
$100.00.... Good deal. Now put a Tuna Trigger in it and you'll really enjoy it.

Happy Shootin,
Petey.

That looks like a Trail NP barrel on a Remington Summit receiver and stock. The Trail has a weaver rail but the Regal doesn't, so perhaps the barrel and NP components are taken from the Trail. Crosman is using the same innards in the Venom, and Vantage NP guns as well, I believe.  All in all it's a nice looking rifle.
As said above, expect low 700s for speed - and it will take an after market Gamo replacement trigger blade.
Here is a Summit

Here is a Trail:

Mash them together and you get a Regal NP!

It's like my Sportsman's Guide Nitro Venom, a Trail NP action in a Phantom stock, before they decided to continue on with the name on their purpose built models.

Thank You All.
I KNEW I could count on GTA folks to point me in the right direction..... ;D
I have read up on the Tuna Triggers (links on his website) and it looks likely that the GRT-III or possibly the CBR trigger will work. Gonna have to take the stock off to see what Benjamin/Crosman trigger got installed on this thing.....

I'll update this thread when I have more info.....It may come in Handy for someone else too.

Just got my new F1 Shooting Chrony......
This Rifle clocked in right at 700 fps,,,,,,just like you guys said it would.

I wish there was a way to install Iron Sights on this gun, but with the way it is constructed (Shrouded Barrel) I dont think it is possible.

Gonna look into a Tuna Trigger now.

I know that this is a bit late for this posting response now, but Crosman has theses rifles for sale on their website for just $59.99. Buy a couple tins of pellets and get free shipping at $75.00. I just spent my Christmas money on it. With the new CDT GRTlll trigger on order, it should put me at 93.00 for a nice budget air rifle and upgraded trigger. I have some other inexpensive 3-9 x 40 mm scopes that I can throw on it to make it a good shooter.
