Title: Evanix blizzard .22 powertune
Post by: ksreta on August 17, 2012, 08:52:46 AM
Hi. Has anyone here ever tuned .22 blizzard for more power.Or have their gun tuned? I bought some 30gr Prometheus Piledrivers and
was thinking of trying to get more power out of my gun. It shoots now 26gr Skenco Big Boys for 955fps = 53fpe.
Would i be able to shoot 30gr Piledrivers for about 1000fps that would make about 70 fpe?

How's the accuracy with the Skenco Big Boys?  My Rainstorm doesn't like them.  As far as tuning for power.  Setup your crony, crank on the hammer tension spring and record the numbers.  I think its going to be tough to get 70 FPE but I'm looking forward to see your results.  If want want a tuner try William Piatt at https://sites.google.com/site/saddlemountaingunsmith/home

Hi. Accurancy was bad, i shot only few pellets trough the chrony. Big Boys are probably too small in the barrel..
I post results when i get to shoot Piledrivers and chrony them.

Hi. I tested the 30gr Piledrivers and here are results. First string, 10 shots with about 5 grams of extra weight in hammer, hammer spring at max and starting pressure about 220bar: 921,934,956,947,947,938,938,927,918 and 917fps. Ending pressure 180bar. Second string, 10 shots, no extra weight, hammer spring at max and starting pressure about 205 bar: 936,930,938,937,941,931,927,918,918 and 912fps. ending pressure 170bar. I tested velocities with Combro Mk4 chrony but don't fully trust its readings. I will test this later with my Shooting Chrony. So not 1000fps but maybe later...

Unless you know that the Piledrivers work well at over 950 fps, you might be better off to stay with what you have.... Many pellets don't like to be pushed transonic (0.80-0.85 Mach = 900-950 fps) and start losing accuracy.... 950 with a 30 gr. pellet is 60 FPE.... I would recommend accuracy testing before any tuning....

Yes you are right Bob, i am gonna test how accurate Piledrivers are. Main reason why i bought them was that i wanted to see
how powerful Blizzard could be with heavy pellets...

the piledriver is actually a boat tailed solid slug, not a diabolo shaped pellet, so they might do ok at higher speeds

Bought some of the Piledrivers for my Marauder. Accuracy was pretty good. I'm waiting for a Rainstorm & will be testing them when it arrives.

I have an understanding of tuning springers but what does one do to the PCP rifles? Just smooth a few things out or something more?

Where can I find some info on adjusting the hammer spring?

Hi. First you have to take the stock off. Then you see a large "screw" at the rear end of the gun that is held in place with
a little hex screw on underside of the gun. Loosen  the hex screw and you can turn larger screw in or out. Deeper the screw, more
tension to the spring.

Edit: at this video 3.40 forward you see the parts.
