This website has some thoughts on the design of subsonic projectiles ie. under 1000fps and what they are designed to do. For the powderburners the ballistic calculator is really cool.

I think that for big bore hunters having the most efficient and stable projectile with the best possible terminal performance in definitely usable. It follows the rules that you have to hit where you aim but at the same time have the terminal performance to anchor the animal. I really like the double ended almost teardrop shaped bullet with the flat nose. I think I am going to get a machinist I know to make me a mold that looks like that but with thinner grease grooves in .358 that drops at about 125 to 130 grns.

I found the " bullet stability factor " calculators interesting, as they deal with the bullet rather than the barrel.
