Before you replace the piston seal and reassemble the gun, do yourself a huge favor and sand and polish out the compression tube.

I noted that the lower edges of the piston were pretty finely lapped from the factory, presumably to reduce gravity-introduced friction. I'm in the process of extending that lapping to the bottom half of the piston, so will certainly work off the upper edges of that punchout.
I'm no expert on these, but the back end of the piston should have 3 little buttons so there is not metal contact.
If they left metal bits in the compression tube you can blame the people up in NY where it was put together. Makes me want to pull my apart and check it when it gets here.
It's going to be the same pretty much all the way to the gas ram and piston. I think I would try to take the piston and gas ram out together. Watch for the 3 little buttons / balls on the back end of the piston. Not sure what holds them in place.
