Therein lies the question, I started out thinking if I got a precision machined scope mount that it would lessen the amount of adjustment I would require from the scope turrets. Then the idea of windage adjustable scope mounts entered the picture and I thought that was a grand idea. With the mounts I have now I am either shooting off to the left,or off to the right. I'd be thrilled if I could resolve this tail-chasing with a set of rings.
Do the BKL rings offer the same "scope centering" effect as the one piece mount?

One installation tip for you Tim.
It'll make sense once you have the rings in hand.
There is a threaded hole on the side opposite the screws.
This is a spreader hole.
Tighten the bases up till they will just about NOT slide on the dove tails.
Remove a mounting screw and put it in the spreader hole.
Tighten it up slowly so the base just slides on the rails.
Locate it properly then remove the screw in the spreader hole.
Mount shouldn't move at this time.
Then tighten them up.
Hope I splained it ok......if not just ask when mounts arrive.

Thanks PaloneJ,much appreciated. Took both scopes ,removed the mounts and cleaned all that gummy residue off. It's that sticky tape the rings have stuck on them. Then used a mirror and optically centered the scopes ,as close I could anyway. Hoping BKL ships the rings out this week..

I have a similar problem, but I know causes mine....scope canting from not holding the rifle/scope assembly perpendicular....and the higher the mounts, the worse it gets...but that's just me

HYspd, I found myself doing that and attached a small camera level to the back of my rifle's receiver. It keeps me from tilting the rifle.

Tim,
I see from your previous post that you've ordered the BKL rings. I have a set sitting here on my desk and they're really nice. But I too had a windage problem, and windage is something the BKL's WON'T do. After a lot of searching and review reading, I found the signature line of rings from Burris. These rings are made from billet steel, and have a nylon insert that can be ordered in offset sizes that allow you to align the scope without touching the turrets. I just did my XS28M with them...BEAUTIFUL!!!! Just a few clicks on the elevation turret to account for the drop, and the windage turret is STILL on ZERO!!! The inserts are offset by 5, 10, and 20, (inches at 100 yards) meaning one half is thicker by so much and the other half thinner by so much. All you do is rotate the inserts inside the ring to move the scope onto the POA and then tighten the rings down. It took me a couple tries to get them tightened down just so, but when I did, fantastic! The other benefit is the combination of the steel rings and the nylon inserts allows you to crank them down tight without fear of damaging the scope tube. I did find that one tweak was needed with the Magnum springer. The scope was actually walking inside the nylon inserts, so I coated the inside of the inserts with contact cement and let it dry for a couple of days...problem solved.
The only downside to all this was the offset inserts (the rings are supplied with 0-0 inserts) were out of stock for a couple of months before I could get my hands on them. But definitely worth the wait!!!

If I have a barrel that's off, I'll bend it.
If it's the rails that are off, I adjust the rings to fit the rail. This is easily done with a file by deepening the notch in ONE of rings, on the fixed side of clamp. Setting the front ring forward/back will now fine tune the amount of cant. You can also flip one of your rings. You often get a little offset when you mount a ring, because the rail is slightly too narrow/wide to get a particular set of rings perfectly centered.
I would be wary of a one-piece mount that adjusts, until I saw the design. The benefit would be that the rings stay concentric and less risk of damaging the scope tube, I suppose. (When I file on scope rings, I take this into account). But it seems like having the mount adjustable defeats part of the purpose of a 1-pc being 1 solid hunk of aluminum with large rail contact.
As far as quality is concerned, I don't really put much stock in a scope ring, other than the fit of the screws to the holes. Some brands hold better than others. The screws do most of the important work. And lock tite is often enough to fix minor issues.

Rokitman60,thank you for for the info.If the BKLs don't fix it then I will be looking into those rings.
Gloob, you may be right I'm hoping these rings will do the trick though. I believe the issue may be the mounts as one scope was having to be adjusted to the right ,the other to the left.Points more towards a mount issue than a gun issue.
PaloneJ- I checked the mail and my rings came in.I re-read your instructions, but I am leery if following as it seems that with only one one screw in place that spreading them might twist them. I stuck them on according to the supplied instructions. If I can find a screw to use as a spreader I will certainly consider doing as you suggest.
Too worn down today to go out in the mid-nineties weather and try to shoot. Maybe tomorrow.
