I friend of mine who camped out with me this summer got the airgun bug. This week he finally ordered a new Stoeger Arms X20S Suppressor (https://www.pyramydair.com/product/stoeger-arms-x20s2-suppressor-air-rifle?m=2406). The next day he got a notice from the vendor that his order was cancelled because Illinois forbids the shipping of airguns over 700fps. So he's having it shipped to me instead. Well, Michigan not quite as goofy with restrictions as I thought.... Mike
-
(removed...nothing to do with the thread)
FYI, it's illegal to hunt anything with airguns in Pennsylvania. I'm sure that nobody will mind if you're shooting rats, but technically, it's illegal.

Uncalled for manowar

Uncalled for manowar
i'll second that. On a side note;about this thread; some places won't sell to me because of San Francisco's ban on Air guns. I'm only 60 miles away on 4 achers...go figure. We can hunt here in CA aslong as it's .20 or bigger..Bart

I think he was just making the comparison to other odd laws, sure enough our country is full of them. Whats the deal with slingshots/airsoft? Seems like they are restricted in SO many places? Places you could have a .50 legally shipped to.. weird.
-
Jeff you are right about the slingshots....just the other day i was at Rite-Aid and they sold slingshots and steel "bb's"....i live in a state and county were this REALLY suprised me! LOL.....i already own one or eles i would have bought one...cant shoot that thing for all the tea in china.but its fun.....bart

Your friend needs to find a new vendor.
IL law is clear on the subject. However, it seems that airgun sellers just pluck disclaimers from other sellers, and copy/paste.
The restriction is located within the FOID card act. 700 fps AND .18 cal or larger, not OR. Meaning .177 of any velocity is fine, as is .22 slower than 700. Even then, with a valid FOID card, he can have anything. Those restrictions listed pertaining to foregrips are remnants of those local codes some towns had regarding "assault weapons" from long ago and have nothing to do with airguns. Most of those codes were reversed after McDonald vs. the City of Chicago awhile back, after the NRA filed suit in every town with laws like that. Most towns erased the codes, rather than fight.
Good vendors understand that IL law doesn't apply to them if they aren't in IL, due to that pesky little U.S. Constitution thing. ;)
Having said that, if he lives in Chicago, Aurora, or Cook county, then he needs to move. They don't recognize the Constitution in those countries. We've been trying to vote them out of the state, but haven't had much success so far. :(

wonder when they passed that i got my last one in the mail last fall, good thing i guess cause now they dont ship to ny
-
I believe these are restrictions on shipping just airguns, not that you can’t have them. Of course I could be wrong.
-
Thanks Jim for passing this along.. Maybe I should put it in GTA Library or somewhere where everyone will notice it. Any ideas?
-
Massachusetts has none of the listed shipping restrictions for air rifles, but Cabelas wouldn't send it to my door. I had to get it shipped to CT where I work, and bring it home myself.

Sportsmansguide doesn't ship to CA, not because it's illegal here but because our state requires an Adult Signature which supposedly cost an extra $5 shipped. UPS usually just leaves the package at the door, but with FedEx you actually have to sign for it or else they'll hold onto the package until someone is home to sign it.

I'm pretty glad I live in Montana.
-
I live in IL and i get guns shipped here to me pretty often.I even called state police and atf&e and even they were confused by our laws. Some stores will just sell them to me others just ask for id proving over 18.

Up to you Gene. Feel free to repost as you see fit.

This friend of mine lives in Arlington Heights, IL. Not sure if that's considered Chicago or not - don't think so.
But as far as the vendor goes, it was Pyramyd Air - not exactly newcomers to shipping airguns. But it was a .22 and it does shoot over 700fps so I'm guessing they're either correct or playing it real safe.
I too was surprised at all the states/munies banning slingshots. I always wanted a nice slingshot as a kid. I made my own out of a forked stick and an old inner tube. Thinking back on all the trouble I caused with that thing I guess I'm fortunate my parents wouldn't buy me one. I bought both my boys fine slingshots when they were very young and they never used them - go figure.

I think its a great idea Gene... I was never quite sure of what was allowed in my state .... Mike

Just to clarify what has already been said. First off Arlington heights is in lake county. Not too far from me I might add. Second, you can have AG shipped that shoot over 700 fps or over .18 they just must be shipped to a vendor and held with a background Check. Some places do ship regardless of the laws. Mainly the smaller operations. You must have a foid card to have the gun shipped to you and that must be verified by the vendor that you are having the gun shipped to. They are correct in not shipping it. It is a statewide thing not just applying to those cities and counties. It not worthy big time. Me and cliffhanger may have to start an airgunners against the Illinois congress group lol. Anyone wanna join :)

I'm in southern part of il and around here if u don't have a gun of somekind people think u r weird! Lol
-
id be in the group especially if they pass c&c one day.

A plain brown wrapper works wonders in NJ, both in and out of the state. Probably elsewhere too if you can get the vendor to do it.

Nice to see my home state (IN) isn't even on that list.
At least we have some of the sanest firearms and airgun laws of all.
-
Makes me glad to live in Ohio. We don't have any restrictions on air guns and FTF transfers on things that go boom.

I would join in, Illinois is crazy about their gun laws, it seems like Illinois wants to punish law abiding citizens with the gun laws.

So,... just how much crime is actually being commited using air guns ? Has the cost of 9 mil ammo gone up so much that gang bangers started carrying pellet guns now ?

Paul,
I think the better question is how much crime is being commited by FOID carring citizens that are following laws in their own state and other states when they travel and carry.

I'm in Knoxville right now and I can pick up a slingshot and "ammo" for same at any Wal-mart in town.
Jonhson City is right though...no nothing fun. Tennessee's own little commie land.

Slingshot ammo restricted?
How do you restrict rocks?
-
THE TREAD HAS WRONG INFORMATION FROM PUERTO RICO.
THERE IS NOT Blank guns and blank ammo RESTRICTIONS.
That kind of guns (8mm and 9mm) and ammo are on sale and in display
at every shopping mall in Puerto Rico.

Unless you're this guy, you're not going to be able to hit much with a wrist rocket beyond five feet with your average rock.

If you want any kind of decent accuracy, you'll need either marbles (good), steel balls (better), or (best) musket balls.
It's a pretty stupid ordinance, no matter how you look at it.
-
Keep in mind that often (stupid) local government regulations can affect these rules... usually to make them WORSE. I mean a state can decide what it wants to uphold from the federal agenda, but a county can only tell residents that there are even more restrictions than the state defines. I happen to live in the woeful situation where someone passed a needless addendum on discharging 'toys'. You can shoot a shotgun, but not a toy/non-fire-arm, that releases a projectile. This is why lawn darts are illegal...

That does not mean a company outside of PR is allowed to ship them to you.

That makes sense, and I wish I would have read it more carefully before I made my purchase, I would have bought something online rather than the lower power version from walmart.
Give it time, after the concealed carry bill lost its super majority by 7 votes or so, there have been a number of lawsuits filed. Its a pipe dream in this state, but it could mean the end of the FOID act and concealed and or open carry coming to the Peoples Republic of IL

No restrictions on airguns here in Ma. ,but I'm sure someday that will change. This is why I try to get all the one I could want. Once I have them Good luck trying to take them. ;)
