Another Storm XT job

Hello folks. Figured I'd start my first post with my new project. Received a Crosman Storm XT and Beeman RS2 for Christmas. The Beeman is performing very well out of the box, beyond expectations. 22.cal version, no issues beyond a lot of spring twang. Lot of power, more than I would expect after reading others experiences with the gun, minor scope securing problem solved, and grouping about 3/4" at 30 yards with CPHP's after 250+- shots. The tater in my avatar is one of it's victims from 30 yrds. It puts CPHP's clean through cheap 1/2" glueboard plywood at 140 feet. I'll probably just add a sling, better scope and a muzzle brake, and do a simple cleanup, smoothing and relube at a later date.
The Crosman is a whole nother story. Felt good out of the box. Tight, very clean and sharp lock on the barrel when cocking, solid sounding when shooting, only a few dieseling shots before quieting down, but sounded more like detonation on first two shots. The thing would not group no matter what. Pellet changes, scope retightening with no movement, tightening stock screws, checking pivot bolt and crown. Everything seemed in order, but power seemed very uneven and grouping non existent after 300 shots. For a brief period it seemed to settle in and begin grouping well, then it suddenly went downhill really began shotgunning pellets. The barrely loosened at the pivot, just enough so it would not hold itself in position when cocked and left in say the 3/4 or 1/2 cocked position. Cock it and break the barrel loose, and it would just drop. So...
At any rate, tore down and found extremely dirty internals. The oil, grease, lube, whatever it is the Chinese put in there was gritty, and its all over everything, trigger assembly included. Found a piece of thread shaped locktite on the piston seal, along with some gritty sand grain sized pieces of unidentified debris inside the compression chamber as well as behind. The piston seal is toast, with half the sealing edge chunked and deformed. The piston had some heavy scuffing on one side and right underneath the rear of the seal seat area. There is also a slight dent across the top of the piston along the cocking slot. Nothing unaddressable, so I'm redoing the whole thing. Not impressive though for a new rifle. I can accept the barely average finish on stock and parts, and even below rated performance, after all its a cheap springer, but not simple poor work due to carelessness.
I've got the stock cleaned up and refinishing it, and will make a couple minor changes, just cosmetic additions. I've also deburred and smoothed all the sharp edges on the piston and compression tube and put a minor polish on the piston exterior, leaving it just rough enough to hold lube.
I'll be adding washers to the barrel pivot, new breach seals and a new trigger. Possibly a slight three angle transfer port angle cut (similar to high performance cylinder head valve seat cut) as well, but that's still very debateable since the gains are questionable and the potential for disaster very real.
What I'm really considering since I have it totally torn down though is upgrading the powerplant. Big surprise there right?
So, what I want to know since I really haven't seen much clearly detailing them, regards the gas pistons and seals.
I've checked and found the Venom and some other models seem to use a gas piston powerplant assembly that looks interchangeable (I'm familiar with the rear bolt issue after reading these great posts). However, my reservations are that I am not impressed with Chinese QC on anything and definitely do not want to do all this and have a gas piston fail and have to go through the return and reinstall process like so many others. I also do not want "good" power and performance, but the highest power feasible, and will address the accuracy and durability issues through other means (heavier pellets, high performance lubes, custom machined internals if needed from better quality materials since I'm 2 miles from a competent machine shop).
Has anyone made detailed specs of the piston that works with the storm, quest etc? Does anyone know who the actual manufacturer is? I figure if I can get the specs for the proper piston, I can order one from a US company, and perhaps have it precharged to a specific level ie 100-150-180lbs.
Also, although there are plenty of piston seals available, can anyone simply tell me which ones are without any doubt the best for this application? Again, I do not want to use direct Chinese made replacement parts from Crosman. While I know they work when they meet specs and are not poorly handled, if I'm going to do this I want everything beyond adequate.
Thanks beforehand, and I look forward to reading some more and learning as I go. Included are a couple pics, just for the heck of it. The "muzzle brake" is an experiment that will likely not make it to final assembly as I've found an aluminum version I can mod better. The rag shows the type and color of dirt coming out of the internals on the second pass. The first was filthy enough to just start with a clean rag after one pass. I ditched the funky brownish-yellow color of the stock, heavily smoothed and sanded, and am staining it cherry mahogany. Its in final stain coat now, then will recieve about 3-4 coats of polyurethane.

Thanks. Going to add a bit to it, but mainly just some trim work on the butt and shelf under the grip. I like the classic old remington bolt action stocks, so want to emulate them a bit.

I picked up a Crosman Storm XT last year at the WallyWorld blow out sale. It came with a Center Point 3X9 scope for all of $54.00. When I got it home I fired about 3-4 pellets to make sure it shot and then tore it apart. Found it needed a new piston seal and breech seal and then honed, deburred, polished the spring ends, 2 polished washers for the spring ends, lube, tar and back together. Use Crosman seals (cheap) and made 2 brass washers for the barrel pivot, installed a CDT trigger and since the rifle was kind of light in the muzzle I made a break out a solid bar of brass.
Also stripped the ugly stock and sanded and stained/poly. Oh and also cut about 2 1/2" off the barrel. Added a one piece mount and a Tasco Golden Antler 3X9. Likes JSB Exacts and will hit anything if I do my part.
I also hear people talk about the CDT trigger. When I got the trigger I installed it and did NO adjustments, hit all the contact points etc with my homebrew combo of moly/30W ND oil/RCBS case lube mix. It's a single stage and breaks absolutly clean at around 1 lb with NO creep.

Looks very nicely done. I'm coming along here, and in the absence of any clear specifications regarding powerplant dimensions, have come up with my own solutions. Honing and cleaning is done, stock is getting it clearcoats, and waiting on parts to arrive. I may just order a gas piston powerplant assembly from a Titan for the heck of it and get the specs I'm looking for. That'll give me time to actually shoot the Storm for awhile and see if it will improve in accuracy after reassembly before doing a conversion.

Few more pics to show what the inside of this thing looked like. Chewed seal, dented scuffed piston, and gritty black oil all over eveything.
