I just got a call from the venerable Mr. Piatt...my 909s is off to spa day!
Quote from: cluny1973 on January 23, 2015, 04:44:14 PMI recently bought a used 909 that has been "tuned" by Will Piatt. The barrels on the 909 are slightly larger in diameter than a regular .45. The 909 is .456-.457 and is slightly choked at the breech. Mr Piatt opens up the barrel at the breech to make loading easier. As far as Air Venturi, I would stay away from anything they sell. The round balls are flat on one side which undoubtedly affects accuracy. From my research, epp/ug shoot the best when sized to .454-.456 but these sizes are difficult to find unless you go for a rifle round which will be 350 grains and up. I bought an assortment of ammo to try out and see which shoots well. I bought some RB from hornady, some epp/ug from Tom Buchannan at ironmule @ wildblue.net. Tom is a great guy and had my bullets in 3-4 days, he was also kind enough to include a free sampler so I can try some of his other bullets. I tried to buy some ammo from Mr. Whyte whytelw @ comcast.net but he never answered my e-mails. I have not had a chance to shoot the rifle since the stock broke in transit so it's been repaired. As soon as I get it back, will try to post some results.Same here, I bought an older 909 WP tuned from Will thats shooting 457 RB at avg of 900fps. Would like more info about how to purchase EPP-ug from Tom B. I placed an order with Mark on Nov, 6 and am still waiting and wondering if they will ever arrive,I would appreciate any info on a source for EPP's that offer better shipping delivery.

Lots of post floating around about using .457 in the 909. Will told me my gun slugged at .,4565 and to use .457.I recently checked Mr. Hollowpoints site. His homepage list a new .456 epp and states that Will Piatt recommends themSo, a new question. What differencs will .001" smaller make in the 909----if any? I should probably note my gun is an older model that does not come with a pressure gauge but has the full tune from Will.

Still getting used to the gun, getting better but still not great compared to round nose for sure. Playing with power setting, the RB actually did better with lower??? I know they are lighter, but figuring on the larger size, I though it would be the opposite, granted the surface area in contact is less compared to bullets.
