cleaning a pumper air rifle?

i know that since gun powder isn't used that cleaning is few and far between. but when i do need to clean a pumper such as a 901 to remove a build up of lead or residue. how do i go about doing it?, would pushing a brush from the muzzle get residue and lead in the pressure area? i thought i might make a cleaning patch attached to a small nylon cord and insert from breech end and pull thru the muzzle and out, do you think this will be fine? i know it will be a long while before i do this, just thought i'd ask and see how you guys do it. thanks

Boomer,
STEP AWAY FROM THE CLEANING BENCH! Put down that rod and brush! YOU ARE ABOUT RUIN A BARREL!
First off, AG are not PB's and they should NOT be cleaned as if same. The steel of most is much softer and the rifling FAR shallower. Just a few times with a bronze or PERISH THE THOUGHT stainless steel brush COULD RUIN THEM!!! Brass barrels of Benjis and Sheridans are even softer!!!
If you must use a rod PLEASE only use a patch and mold solvent. Leading really dosent occurs unless your a big power shooter. The soft lead slugs just do. It act like there PB cousins.
Most like to make there own cleaning cords form string trimmer line. Take a 38-40" piece. Melt one end with a lighter and "make a mushroom cap" on the end. By heating and mashing it on a hard surface. Then go to other end and sharpen it so it can easily penetrate and cleaning patch.
No get your patch, stick it on the cleaning cord and slide patch down to mushroomed end. Apply solvent I like googone or simple green cleaner and slide pointed end in BREECH AND OUT MUZZLE then pull patch thru. Repeat until patch is dirty. Replace patch and continue until only clean patches come out. Your gun barrel is now SAFELY cleaned.
