Discovery Gauge Port Leak - disassembly question

The Discovery that I'm rebuilding has a leak from the gauge port. I'm 90% certain it's from the o-rings, not the threaded hole/stem/gauge itself. My question is, is it best to pull the valve out and remove that way, or to pull the gauge block out from the front using a hook on a rod? It would seem there's less problems in re-inserting the gauge block from the front, but this is the first Disco I'm playing with so want to know what the usual procedure is. Tried both YouTube and GTA Darkside searches, but can't seem to find the info I'm looking for.
Thanks!

The hole on the gauge port is so small on a disco no way could you just pull it out with a hook and a rod. Plus if there bad you might as well change the valve oring anyways cause it might be on its way out to. What I do is have a piece of PVC and push the valve out along with the gauge port to the fill end. Never hurts to chamfer that hole with a dremel to help with cutting of orings. I then run a rag through to clean out and add new orings on both valve and gauge port lube them with silicone grease and install one at a time from the fill end and make sure to help the orings get passed the gauge port hole or else you'll need to do it again.

Tend to pull the gauge port out to the front (a long hooked wire/rod will do it). Has to pass over the gauge port hole (at least 1 ring does) and the step at the end of the fill cap threads. Coming out from the back end means I have to remove the valve (and drag it's o-ring over the 3 valve retention screw holes, the cocking slot, the trigger slot, and the end cap holes,,,,then dragging the gauge block over the same holes.
Just less chance of nipping an o-ring from the front, even though its a longer distance.
