Whe I shoot groups on paper they dont turn out very well, but when I shoot obects such as acorns or tin cans, I can hit them every shot almos dead center! Is it the angles, or something Im doing? Heres my groups at 25 yards, and a pellet can that I shot once at 65 yards and hit the edge on the left, then sat it at 40 and almost drilled it dead center no problem. So why is it that I can kill acorns every shot almost, but when it comes to shooting paper I not so good ???Maybe its because I sprint outside to reset targets, and then run upstairs and immediatly shoot? Hmmmmm...Im not to steady handed I guess
^40 yards 1 shot almost center
^25 or 30 yard groups
My shooting angle to my 25 yard shots is about 65 degrees guesstimation

Shooting paper is all about consistency, the same hold, the same breath control, the same trigger squeeze, etc, everything exactly the same shot after shot after shot. Plinking on the other hand generally involves one shot per target and that target maybe relatively large; a dime is 5/8 of an inch in diameter, while the bottom of a soft drink can is approximately 2.5 inches a huge difference especially when total area is considered. A bulls eye the size of a dime is 0.012 square inches, while the bottom of a soft drink can is 4.9 square inches.
The first time I took out a new .22 and scope combo I was hitting the bottom of cans at 100 yards, but that 4.9 square inches allowed for a huge variance. Put up a paper target with a one inch diameter bulls eye (an area only 0.8 square inches) and the grouping on those cans would probably be all over the place. Just holding the sights on an area that is less than one square inch is difficult, and without a lot of practice it is natural to rush the trigger pull when you see the sight and the target are lined up.
The picture of the can means nothing because it is one event. Mark five cans so you can set them out with the mark at the top, then shoot the five cans, you have a grouping if you combine the five shots. Now put a small bulls eye on five cans and do the same thing; don’t be surprised if your shots are all around the bulls eye, called chasing the bull when using iron sights and caused by focusing on the target rather than the front sight. With a scope the normal movement of the rifle is magnified and without a lot of practice it is hard to control when the rifle fires so that the cross-hairs are on the bulls eye.

The "group" size is actually about the same in both pictures. So, it's afeeling rather than a fact. When you're shooting paper, you are likely concentrating and shaking a bit more than when you are plinking. Relax, and shoot paper in a
calm, relaxed state
and your groups will improve.

haha ok thanks. I set out 3 gum drops and nailed them all with one shot except for one which I hit right below. Its easy to confirm where you hit with snow! Think 1 inch groups are acceptable at the 25-30 yard range for squirrel hunting head shots? Thats what the ones on the paper on the first post measure about

You're in the ballpark. I think the stress factor trying to hit a tiny spot on paper is in play here. And the running back and forth. Try tacking a few multiple bull targets on a sheet of plywood so you don't have to run back and forth so much, and practice, practice, practice! As you get better at the paper, you'll get better in the field.

Unless you do paper shooting all the time, you're probably going to have results like you experienced.
Paper is all I shoot. And, I notice that my first shot is always dead-on bull. With subsequent shots drifting further away from center. It seems, in my experience, that a fresh target is easier to hit than a target you've shot multiple times.
I use a National Target 5 Bull Center Air Rifle Target a lot. And the first shot on each target always (well, almost always) finds the center. While each subsequent shot will probably not be as good as the first.
I think it all has to do with concentration and technique.
