How is it marked on the right side of the receiver?
Is it dated like my Racine 397P?That first character is an "I" can't get an exact date. Guessing 93-early95.
I was always told to never oil pump section of the gun, was I given wrong info? I was told oil would ruin the seal by swelling and softening the seal, is it true or should you just use certain oil types?

Guessing 93-early95.Rob112o, Your 397 was most likely made in 1991. With that serial number, the right side of your gun should be marked, Benjamin Air Rifle, and with the Racine Address. All racine made guns (feb 91-nov 93) had a six digit serial with a letter prefix. The vast majority of of 39X guns had a V prefix, but the earlier ones had an I prefix. At some point in 1992, the name stamp changed to Benjamin Sheridan Corp. Production stopped in racine in Nov. 1993, and began again in I think Feb of 1994 in NY. The earliest NY guns were marked Benjamin-Sheridan and with Bloomfield NY like the OPs gun. For some reason they only stamped them like this for a few months. I'd bet the first digit in his serial number is a 2 though maybe a 4 or 5, but would be curious to know. The second and third digits will definitely be 94.
