It would cause it to rise or fall in a crosswind.... The "magnus effect" causes lift due to spin.... For a golfball, that spin is backspin, which increases the range it flies.... In a projectile, the spin is caused by the rifling (fortunately the bullet isn't tumbling over backwards).... so there is no increase in range.... Worse than that, if there is a crosswind, the bullet will get lifted if the wind is from one side, and pushed down if it's from the other.... This will cause vertical stringing in a crosswind in addition to the pellet drifting sideways....Bob
