Title: Tasco Pronghorn and Golden Antler Advice needed
Post by: JAK on February 14, 2011, 11:32:28 AM
I am looking at a tasco Pronghorn and Golden Antler. Both 3x9-40mm. I am wondering if it will hold up to a springer..I am putting it on my sons Stoeger X20.. I would like to here from you all on this matter. I only got 45 bucks to work with for a scope and I want it to be a 3x9-40mm for low light..

Thanks
Jason

The golden antler is a very nice scope I have 3 of them One on bigcat with ram other on quest an g-1 three years no problem. the pronghorn I have is on a crosman custom co-2 air rifle dont like the big heavy lines. On a springer I would go with the golden antler.

Golden Antler on three of my Shadow 1000. No problems in five years. However the RWS 350M ate one in 50 shots, it also ate two others scopes even after a tune job.

I bought a new 3X9 Tasco Golden Antler about 1 1/2 years ago. From day one it wasn't that bright and after about a year I noticed all these spots in the front objective. The glass has a blue tint but it's now about 40% gone and has just clear spots in it's place. Also the back glass is foggy. Other than that it would be a nice scope for the price.

Only has a year warranty which was over and even then you have to include $10.00 and it costs about $8-$9.00 to mail it. First Golden Antler I bought and I got a clunker. From what I have heard seems like I have the only bad one they ever made.

I like the Golden Antler and tried to order another one recently from opticsale.com. They told me it was discontinued.

My original was from Opticsplanet but they also no longer carry it. Let us know where you find one. I'd like another.

Edit: Found it online -- Natchez Shooting supply has it for $30, shipping/ins/tax = $43. Called them to make sure they had it in stock. Here's the link:

The tasco golden antler scope also has something most scope don,t have if can sight your scope in at a certain yardage. Then take the turrents off there held on by 3 little hex screws an reset to zero both windage an elavation. so you sight in at 20 yds then if want to shoot at 50yd,s rise the the number of clicks to get on at 50 yd,s when done shooting reset to to zero.

northern lights- I didn't know that- good tip!

I thought it was a good little scope for the money. I don't think they are springer rated but I have one that has held up on some mid-range springers. It hasn't been out in a while but currently lives on the B26.

On the old GTA there were some reports of breakage on higher-powered springers, but also lots of happy customers. If you can find a Centerpoint in that price range, they have held up pretty darn well.

I have the Golden Antler on my RWS 34 and have been well pleased with it.  I got mine at:
 http://www.opticsale.com/tasco-golden-antler-3-9x32-airgun-scope-ao-1000-prd1.html (http://www.opticsale.com/tasco-golden-antler-3-9x32-airgun-scope-ao-1000-prd1.html)
for $33.99 with FREE shipping.  The web page or the shopping cart doesn't say they are discontinued.  Maybe they got some more in ?

The golden antler is air gun rated but you know some mag-airgun will eat scope. I also thought that tasco is out of bussiness an nc-star took over the company.

Bobbyjim- Just an FYI as far as what happened with my order.

I ordered the Golden Antler from opticsale, rec'd a confirmation right away. For three days, when I updated the status to see the progress of my oder, no change. Then I went to the website and emailed them from the site, asking about when my item would ship and rec'd a reply that the item was discontinued and "would I like to order another item or get a refund?". I chose refund and they refunded my Paypal right away.

On a better note, I ordered the same scope from Natchez on Tuesday and rec'd it today. Good service.

Ordered one last night and got the conformation. This morning got an email saying it was discontinued. Called for a refund already. They have some great prices on scopes, but very limited as too air rifle rated.
