Anybody ever use anything beside molly on springer's?I tried super lube synthetic grease for extreme pressure and heat last night while tuning a ruger.its one of my older guns so not a big deal if it doesn't and with the weather in the 40s today i will go try it out to see how it does and holds up.Pretty sticky stuff. The company said it should work great for this so well see.

I tried something similar when I first started tuning. It worked OK but once I tried the lube kit from ARH there was no going back. For $30 you can tune 15 guns. That's pretty cheap and the results are great. Let us know how you come out. I used a Coastal brand extreme pressure grease with moly. I still use it on the beartrap lever and the barrel lock up, but not on internals.

IMO, the main thing to remember about grease on the spring is.....if you apply too much it will sling off the spring. With that in mind, use which ever grease you choose, chicken fat, goose grease, bacon fat, toe jam, moly etc sparingly.
Grease that is slung off of and out of the tube is of little use.

Good Point Mike. You just want a tiny bit of spider webbing down the spring when finished. Apply evenly. Only use the moly from front of spring to where spring guide ends. I generally lube spring guide with clear Tar.

I used a 50/50 blend of "Red n Tacky #2" grease from Lucas and Moly 60 paste. Works fine in my CFX.

Well i shot it apx 30 times today.Need to rework spring a bit but am gonna take the synthetic grease off seal & wipe tube down.Got very little dieseling but the seal on piston hit so hard i thought it was gonna go through barrel. Was to fast if you can believe that.I will go back to molly and slow down a bit. When i say it shot hard it shot.8 gr up to 12.65gr way too hard.Wasn't getting any grease out of cylinder as i thought it might throw some out. This grease is good to 30 below and +475f. I can think of other uses but not for tip of piston and seal.Sounds unreal but it was so.I might chrono it sunday to see what its shooting before i take it apart and compare before shots. So back to the good ole stuff.

I did not have any "heavy tar" for spring lube when I first took down my M-34. This was after shooting it about 100 times. It was very twangy and turned out to be very dry. I did have some moly 60 which I used in the cylinder and on the piston and spring ends which I polished. After thinking about what might work on the spring I ended up using purple cross country ski wax. This is very sticky stuff. It worked remarkably well smoothed things out and quieted down the spring. I just replaced it with "heavy tar" from JM. I will shoot it tomorrow and see if it is an improvement. I also replaced the seal which was nicked in a few locations from sharp edges and no lube.

I am a fan of JM lubes. Just did my Diana 52. Moly for seal and spring ends. Heavy tar for spring and clear for OD of compression tube. She is one smooth quiet shooter.

Red and tacky # 2 for me as well.......been using it for over a year and does quite well.....wee bit of grease coming off and coating the compression tube has done absolutely nothing to harm my RWS guns in any way..... matter of fact.... I want just a touch to sling and be spread by the seal when I first lube one up
