I bent my Benji Trail NP barrel - HELP!
«
on:

While I was loading a pellet, I must have pulled the trigger (the safety linkage is removed) and we all know what happened. I had my hand on the barrel so I was able to slow it down considerably, but it still hit home with an awful-sounding THWACK!!!.
Now the gun shoots 7 inches high at 20 yards. The gun still shoots ragged one-holers, but now I have to aim a lot lower...
So my question is, should I attempt to bend the barrel back (after removing the shroud), try to adjust the scope, or shim the scope?
Thanks in advance!

maybe we shouldnt remove safety linkages? just a thought.
as for your barrel id say shim the scope dont try and bend it back common sense is telling me that you will just create more of a problem, maybe order a new barrel?

If it's still shooting "one holers" and the bend isn't visually apparent to the point where it makes the gun look weird I think I'd just shim the scope and re-sight it in. Just my opinion....

Joseph, 808 as in TR-808?
Atomic1, I'd go with shimming if you can get the scope zeroed in again. If you have to bend it you can at least be sure about which way to go..

The good news is the barrels are not expensive ordering from Crosman, should you go the replacement route. Shroud parts are not included but if yours is not damaged just reuse it.

My NPXL1100 barrel got bent in a similar way. Mine was even worse than 7" high at 20 yards. I couldn't bring myself to attempt to bend it back, for fear of kinking it. But a good friend did it for me and now its back to normal and working perfectly. If it wouldn't have worked, the barrels are cheap so why not try?

I'm with Richard if you plan to get a new barrel, try bending that one and if you fail its not a biggie as you planned to get a new one anyway.
If you'd rather keep the $$ in your pocket, shimming sounds like a reasonable solution.

One should never remove the bear trap linkage.
It's there for a very specific reason.... safety.
You can easily lose finger tips, get broken jaws, cracked skulls and all kind of hurties.

Do not over shim the scope or you may need a new scope also. If you do bend back the barrel there are post where members have done so. If I was to try bending the barrel I would center the scope first take a shot then calculate how much bend was needed. JMO

I bent my barrel, and brought it down 4 inches , but I did not attempt to bend anymore. I took it to a air rifle shop and had it bent with a pipe, which was much better. Bent back into place and worked fine after that.

Well, I just hit the button and posted a fresh hot topic.
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=49873.0
And as Bob said, NEVER remove a safety device from an airgun. It does not negatively affect the performance of an airgun but can SURE save your fingers and a hospital visit!!!!
And did I say.....
SAFE & Happy Shooting!!!!

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm going to try and bend it back. I'll replace if necessary. After that I'll reinstall the safety linkage.
