Industrial Argon Bottles

Thinking about getting my first PCP ( Marauder ) and looking at the different filling options. I have a couple industrial argon bottles that are 300 cf and will hold up to 4500 psi. Has anyone use these types of tanks for compressed air to fill your airguns ?
Although heavy at about 140 lbs., they wouldn't have to be moved except when they need to be filled.

Should work just fine, as long as the Hydro test is current.... You may want to invest in a slow-fill valve (eg. Jubilee), or place a restrictor in the base of the valve (ie before it) so that you don't accidently slip and overfill your PCP....

I wonder if you can find a place that would fill an Argon tank with anything other than Argon.
Industrial tanks are usually color coded as well as labeled. That's to prevent one of my Maintenance guys... I mean somebody... from grabbing an Oxygen, Nitrogen, or heaven forbid Acetylene and connecting it to a welder.
And yes, they are dated so make sure it is stamped as current

Yes, you would never get it filled commercially with anything but Argon.... I assumed the OP had a compressor to fill it himself.... possibly in error?....

I believe I do have a place to fill it, just have to check before buying the all the fittings required.
HD is correct on the color coded tanks, argon happens to be brown. I would want to paint it a different color and clearly ID it as compressed air.
Where would I go to get the required fittings to make this work ?

Any way you can trade your Argon tanks for a 6000 psi Nitrogen tank? I doubt anyone will fill an Argon tank with anything other than Argon. In fact I would assume it is against the law. Both assumptions on my part. Even if you had the Nitrogen tank it would still need to be filled. It cost me $99 (delivered) for a filled 6000 psi Nitrogen tank. It costs $108/year to rent the tank. Be sure you ask for a 6000psi tank as most Nitrogen tanks are 2800psi. I use regulated gauges from
www.airguntanksforsale.com
. I fill straight from the Nitrgen tank. It works great and extremely safe but these are the regulated version and cost more. I use this Nitrogen set up for my air rifle range where we have many users. The regulated gauges are fool proof with little training required. If I were going to do this for personal use I would probably buy the non-regulated gauges for cheaper then use the savings to buy the small 4500psi carbon fiber (guppy type) tank. I would fill the small tanks from the Nitrogen tank and the rifle from the guppy tank. That would be more convenient as the small tank can be next to your shooting bench or taken with you if you travel.

The fittings on the argon tank valve are different from air valves. That would significantly complicate getting them filled with air.

The CGA fitting for Argon would have to be replaced with one for air, of course.... unless you were filling it yourself, then you could use whatever high pressure fittings you wanted....

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I'm going to try and trade the two argon bottles as suggested by Brazos.
