Recently purchased a 2240 and it turns out i like it more than what i thought i would.
I would really like it even more if it preferred crosman pellets as opposed to the jsb 14.3.
Bought this for some 12-15yrd plinking out the back garage door and not looking for
pin point accuracy but, would like to stay inside a 1.5" circle. The jsb is the only one
that comes close. Last night i ordered a steel breech and a bsa red dot.
Is there any chance by changing to new breech that it may prefer a different pellet
or is this wishful thinking? I would think the barrel has more to do with that but
was just hoping.
I'm not going to put too much into this one, as i will probably be getting a custom shop
2240 or 1322.

it wil like what it likes, and the steel breach will not change the pellet that it likes, but it sure can make it more accurate!

Did you clean the inside of the barrel before you began shooting it ? This could help.
You might also want to check the crown of the barrel for any small burrs or issues at the muzzle.
Recrowning is easily done with a brass screw and a cordless drill. Lots of threads can be found on it.
I have 4 2240s in various configurations, and one of them is the factory barrel.
They all shoot the CPHP's well at that distance.
Good luck.

Well, in my experience, the 2240 with an upgraded breech is like a totally new pistol in terms of consistent accuracy, but it doesn't add very much velocity (maybe none, though perhaps a tiny bit because of less energy wasted stabilizing from muzzle vibration) and therefore would not really change the ballistic coefficient of your pellets (what really matters for pellet accuracy between guns).
You can buy longer barrels and this and that and yada yada yada... but I just put on the steel breech, and upgraded the sights to an adjustable rear and fiber optic front. Frankly, I bought it to improve my pistol mechanics and quietly/affordably control pests, and by my thinking, why spend a ton of money modding a 2240 to handle like something that would've had the same features right off the bat for $200?
Anyway, I've shot 13 or so different pellets through mine and its shockingly accurate with H&N field target trophy 14.3g. without a rest, I can shoot my 2" spinners every single time from 3 - 20 yards, and have hit a soup can at 45 yards in 1 try leaning on a wall for additional shooting platform stability. (Not to talk about my shooting ability but rather display the guns definite excellence with only minor upgrades)
For Crosman pellets, the pointed tip destroyers shot relatively inaccurately- though packed a solid punch, the regular premiers were pretty accurate - though they leave bunch of graphite and lead on your fingers and in your barrel, and the hollow points were just plain disappointing.
As stated before, H&N FTT 14.3 was by far the best for my particular barrel, though RWS Superdome and JSB 14.3 have also been exceptional. I recommend buying the pointed tip destroyers from crosman if you need to feel you must go with the brand, strictly because they are more devastating, and almost as accurate as domed pellets at 15 yards. Wadcutters are definitely worth trying for short ranges as well.
Just remember that no two barrels are perfectly alike and its worth getting good pellets if you're going to go out of your way to get an accurate gun.

Thanks everyone.
The reason i was hoping for the crosman pellet to be a little more accurate
is that the CPUM are available close to home and are cheaper.
Ultimately i'll shoot whatever is most accurate.

I kind of ran into something similar recently.
I have a custom shop 2400kt in .22 that only shot RWS Super H Points well. I bought 2 new barrels from Crosman hoping that one of them would shoot well with a slightly less expensive pellet. One of the barrels had a burr at the barrel port so I installed the one without the burr to start. No love. It shot well, but again only with the Super H Points. I removed the burr from the second barrel, worked the crown and leade gently and installed that one. The second barrel now shoots Air Arms 16 gr and JSB 15.89 gr equally (and better than either barrel shot the Super H Points) and CPHP's are a close second.
Giving the barrel a little love usually works out and if it doesn't at least Crosman barrels are inexpensive and you can try again without too much pain in the pocketbook.

I guess I got newbie lucky, I got a bunch of guns and none have given me trouble as far as being accurate, once I figured them out......also my 2400KT Carbine with 14.5 barrel and utg scope is a tack driver still using the CPHP....I probably should spend more time on pellet selection, but that elusive perfect pellet would take up too much of my time.....good luck

After seeing the thread that Nervoustrigger has written up on crosman barrels, i'll give this one a go.
Only makes sense while having it apart to change breech. I guess thee worst that can happen is learning something.
My biggest issue is time. The wife and kids are going on vacation so hopefully i can do this without feeling rushed.
You know "what ya doing?" "can i help?" "what are these for?" "oops sorry!"

My 1377 was most accurate with Daisy SpeedMax pellets way back when. Then I got my hands on a Crooked Barn Ultimate Breech. Suddenly the SpeedMax pellets wouldn't group for beans. It took me a while but finally settled on RWS wadcutters as the go to pellet for that pistol. So, yes, merely changing the breech CAN change what pellet shoots best out of a given barrel.

Robbie,
Best wishes with your barrel prep work. I've always seen an improvement from working over the Crosman barrels so I think you will be happy with the results. FYI, the 2240 that I got from Pyramyd a few weeks ago was shooting CPHP pretty well after the work. It was hitting teaspoons at 25 yards 100% of the time, and the stainless steel rat at 43 yards roughly 4 out of 5 times with a completely trial-and-error holdover (never put groups on paper at that distance to find the correct holdover). That was with a steel breech and 4x crossbow scope with a reticle as fat as railroad ties, and converted over to a Ninja bottle. While regulated HPA is advantageous compared to CO2 from the standpoint of consistent velocity, I don't want to overvalue it since the difference at 25 yards across 5 shots would be pretty minimal.
I didn't put many groups on paper with the CPHP but I would say it was around 3/4" on average at 25 yards. It did better with some H&N FTT that I had on the shelf, closer to 1/2" I would say. Frankly I'm not too confident in my aiming precision at 4x so take that with a grain of salt. I prefer more like 12x when I'm trying to assess how well a gun groups.
Anyway, have a go at it and let us know how it turns out. Mine is now converted over to .177 and the .22 barrel is sitting in a box so if for some reason yours doesn't turn out satisfactory, you are welcome to it for the cost of shipping.

Jason, thanks for the generous offer of the barrel should i mess up.
I have the utmost confidence that all will go well
.
I have been doing some reading on HPA and contemplating it. Just kinda going with baby steps right now.
Took it apart tonight and now understand a little more of what i'm reading. Originally wasn't planning on
doing too much with it but, can see where once the comfort level is reached it's a different game.
