im having the same problem w my SSG can only get it to 813 fps regardless of preload or gap.anyway you can take a picture of that bushing you are referring to ?
I've heard others with similar issues... Is the bushing somehow attached to the hammer, or does it simply ride behind it? Maybe, instead of actually increasing bearing area to 1/2", it just forces the spring to push squarely on the hammer... and that's why it works.

He illustrates the assembly really well. The bushing/spacer is inserted into the back of the hammer. It keeps the hammer from tilting as the bolt is now riding on ~1/2" of hammer surface rather than 1/4".
