I did tell the seller and he stated that the finish is "fairly standard" for this gun and that is why it is a great $1100 airgun and not a $2500 airgun.

I highly recommend the SWFA SS 10x42 scopes with the Mil-Quad or Moa-Quad reticles. They are built like a tank, and are great glass for the $$. They come in around 18.7 oz I think. I found that I left my variable power scope at 10x anyway, so the fixed power hasn't bothered me one bit. I actually see it as plus, since there is less to break. The reticles are very fine, so long range shooting is a non-issue.
