Title: Benjamin Genesis
Post by: dash4cash on January 08, 2014, 10:02:09 PM
Ha guys new to the sight and it only took me 3 days to become fully addicted to this air gun thing. I really enjoy the sight as well, never new so many people were into air guns. I picked up a Benjamin Genesis .22 cal. just 3 days ago, couldn't wait to get home and send some pellets down my 14 yd. archery range in the basement. After about 15 to 20 shots I had the Center Point 3x9x32 scope dialed in my 5 shot groups were the size of a quarter. Now today my shots seem to be going everywhere but that quarter size bullseye. I have done nothing to the gun {mods} and was told to shoot about a hundred shots through the gun for break in. I was shooting 14 gr. Crosman pointed pellets, today I picked up some 22 gr. Gamo pellets, thought the extra weight would be better for the rabbits, these pellets are pointed as well and the pattern with them is no different than the Crosman. 1 or 2 shots will be good and the next is 1 and 1/2 inches high, right or whatever. Makes no sense too me. Any help for this addicted newbe would be great.
Thank You, Carl

It could be a number of things

 1. Your hold- dont hold the gun to hard. Look at the artillery hold.

 2. You didnt say you cleaned the barrel so Im going to assume you didnt clean it. Get some patches and some weedeater line, and a straw and clean out that barrel.

 3. U need to wait till it settle down. Put at least 500 hundred shot down the barrel.

 4. I dont think its the scope, but it could be check the previous things first. Also, make sure the screws are tight on the gun and the scope itself isnt sliping

 Cheers

 Jay

Start with the basics:

1.) Clean the Barrel, do not use regular firearm cleaning gear, get a piece of string or weed eater line cotton patches and a bottle of goo gone, soak a patch in goo gone pull it from breach to muzzle, then pull dry patches until clean, do not use oil in your barrel.

2.) Check the screws that hold the action into the stock, they tend to get loose every 50~100 shots, I personally recommend replacing them with Metric Grade 8 Button head Cap Screws and using Blue LocTite.

3.) Google 'Artillery Hold', study it make it your friend

4.) Look for some good domed pellets they are more accurate than pointed, JSB, Air Arms, RWS and CPHP are all good choices.

5.) When you have the gun out of the stock to replace the stock bolts check the pivot bolt, it should be snug enough so that when the gun is cocked you can hold the stock upright with the barrel at 90 degrees and it will just barely stay there....

Pay attention to what these guys said. Do get some round nose pellets. Some of my low powered pistols will shoot the pointed ones, but not the high powered rifles. Look through your barrel from the breech end and see if the front baffles are clear of the pellet path. Also look down from the muzzle end and see if there's any signs of the pellets clipping the baffles. I've read where some people have had this problem.

As always, make sure your rifle is unloaded before you do this.  :P

Thanks for the advise guys. I cleaned the barrel last night but dint have a chance to shoot before bed. I decided to run a few pellets through this morning and cant believe the difference the cleaning made. I did two 5 shot groups and both would fit inside a quarter, the Genesis seems to shoot very well and at least now I know what to do when the groups start to spread.
Thanks again, Carl

P.S Now that the addiction has taken hold, I will be searching for another gun for fun shooting. I would like to keep the price under $250 so any advise would be super. I am not brand dedicated {yet} so throw them at me guys.

Carl,

Check all the other things too, especially the stock screws.

Carl

I also recently bought the Genesis and have been very pleased with it.  Since I've shot older military rifles
for years with their two stage triggers, the long trigger travel didn't bother me that much.  I was watching
YouTube videos on this rifle and decided to go with the 5/16 washer trigger adjustment trick.  Since I already
had many of these washers on hand for my RC planes, no problem to drill the hole a bit larger and insert on the trigger.
Zero creep now and down to a much lighter let off, all for less than 5 cents.
