Stoeger x20 .22

I bought this Gun less than a month ago, have put about 500 pellets thru it.
First off the stock is black composite with a nice swell underneath for hand placement and the stock is smaller than the 34 or 350 making it a little easier to use being only 5'6 myself.
Filled the stock with rags to lessen the sound amplification, it worked but will replace with expanding foam soon.
Upon removing the screws to the stock for some tuning I found the stock screws stripped, they would still bite but not much left of the threads, looking for replacements.
The trigger is just like the old crosmans I had, Junk. I did some modifications to the group, polished up the the pieces and all contact points. I added steel to the back of the trigger blade giving a lighter pull as it now makes contact at the far end of the trigger sear.I also removed the trigger return spring making the overall trigger pull much easier and less guess work, until I get the GRT III trigger that is.
After performing a first time home tune and lube, polished spring ends, honed cylinder, touched up the not so great seal with 600 grit paper and using moly and clear tar, it shot much smoother with less twang but not as nice as the 34's.
At this point I put a 4x32 center point scope on her and try for targets at 20 yards after rough site in, poi was everywhere with all pellets I tried except rws, a little more consistent but nothing to brag about.
I figured it was something I did, so i re-evaluate my work and find no problems but during the inspection noticed marks on the inside of the front of the muzzle part of the front sight assembly. I removed it and noticed bits of plastic shards sticking up and the hole itself was not perfectly aligned.
I reamed the hole out and sanded it smooth then touched up the crown with a dremel and felt cone using jewelers rouge to polish the crown. This took a few minutes but looked great when it was done, I then put everything back together and got down to sighting in.
I switched the 4x32 scope for a leapers 3-9x40 after buying the RWS 4-12x50 ci scope, at twenty yards it is grouping shots smaller than a Dime, the size of 2 pellets touching, was able to even take a mouse at twenty yards with her.
She might not have been given the best start but with a little TLC these Ag's can be pretty terrific, I am finding myself reaching for this more often now, as it fits me so well, a welcome addition to my stable.Rob

Very nice review, enjoyed it very much. Now I've got the "itch" again to get a .22 Stoeger

Thanks Longisland, Kind of bought this because of your review and others a side from how often I have read many wanting the .22 because of such good reviews with the .177, I think it will only get better as she breaks in. I found new stock screws and replaced them at the same time tightened the breech bolt and it required a re-sight.
I always sight-in for the cold shots, so here is my sight-in from earlier today, the groups on the bottom is my sight-in procedure. The shots on top are after the rifle sat for 40 mins and the top shot was first. The .43 is the outside to outside and the ctc is on the caliper.. All shots are from standing supported position and at 20 yards with the leapers 3-9x40 set to 9x, the pellet used is RWS super h points.
The Super H points are giving me 16 fpe at 718 fps@14.2 gr with very good accuracy

The Stoeger only gets better.
After i had to tighten the hinge bolt a few times, then resight in every time I tightened the bolt I kind of got fed up.
So I made a set off brass pivot washers for the hinge at the breech block. The measurements are : .691 diameter, center hole .340, thickness is .063.
I have not re-sighted in yet, now when I let the barrel go for a fraction of a second it does not move where as with the plastic washers the barrel would drop.
I really like this air gun and I would think this will only add to the accuracy of the AG Even though it is very accurate. These Ag's perform very well after tuning and some TLC. Rob
