Im going to be getting the barrel cut, and a muzzle brake put on my sm1000, and i was thinking what length should i cut the barrel to, i was thinking i should leave it around 12 inches, at that length how much velocity do you think it will lose? The former owner told me its been chronied around 950 fps with crosman premiers, but thats with the full lenght barrel, also will the 4inch muzzle brake make up for the short barrel in velocity terms?

Also heres a link to the muzzle brake im going to get, im going to be getting the ribbed one, with the glossy bluing, but do you think an rws 48 muzzle brake will fit on my gun which is a clone of the 48?

Twelve inches is reasonable. You really shouldn't lose much, if any, velocity; that's more of a concern with CO2, MSP, or PCP plants. Depending on your particular gun, it may even speed up a little (not really significantly, though).
The muzzle brake will do nothing but change your point of impact (POI). I don't know what the barrel outer diameter of the SM1000 is... Maybe someone will chime in soon and let you know if the RWS brake will fit it. Do you have a micrometer?

I cut my B30 (still the same gun) to about 11 inches. Polished and crowned. No need for a brake unless for a visual aid. BTW were you aware that Joe (muzzle mack) is going out of business and if you click the ebay link you will see he does not have anymore of those brakes available.

Nope, you may want to find someone that has a lathe and have it made. It's not really a big job just need the materials and the lathe.
