I was about to junk a perfectly fine (other than being nonfunctional) Nitro Venom Dusk in .22 cal. the other week. It was quite obvious that the nitro gas piston was a goner for reasons I still can't fathom. I had acquired the rifle new, shot it perhaps two hundred times, then health issues struck and the gun went into the cabinet for a prolonged period. Long enough for the warranty to expire. I did manage to take it out every now and then and fire three or four shots from the back patio, but that was about it. I'd guess that less than 300 rounds total left the barrel before the piston went kaput. I had no idea what a gas piston would cost, but contacted Crosman and found to my delight that it was only a $26 purchase. I read around on this forum, got ideas out the ears, made a spring compressor out of lumber I had in the shed and a scissor jack from my car, and as soon as the piston came in, took the rifle apart again (I'd already taken it apart once, and compared to the PB's that I normally work on found to to be a very straight forward affair), gently cross hatched the cylinder with 400 grit, moly lubed the piston and installed a new seal, (hey, I was in there anyway, and for a buck..), polished the sear while I had it apart, put it all back together and it performs better than it did the first day I got it. I think that now, if it had happened under warranty, or if it should happen to any others I might get ahold of (yeah, kind of been bitten by the bug), that instead of sending it back and paying the price for shipping at the price levels shipping is now, that I'd just order the parts if it was another Crosman product (time will tell with longevity of the new piston as to whether any more Crosman's are going to be on my "to-buy" list. If it lasts, I love that rifle). If the price of any needed part for another brand is as reasonable, I think I'd save shipping with them too. Glad to have the old gal up and running again, even if the pear eating squirrels around here aren't.

Sometimes, it just feels GOOD to fix something. Especially an Airrifle! I have been in the same spot with several. and when that first pellet whooshes out, I cannot HELP but smile.
Good Job!

I have to admit to be a notorious fixer-of-things-broken, or as my wife calls me, "cheap". Might explain why when the electrical windings went bad in a portable generator and couldn't be regenerated with a reverseable hand drill, I just couldn't HELP but think of how much fun a shopping cart with an eleven horse motor would be. If you happen to see me heading your way in a buggy with the kinks still not worked out of the steering and shooting tin cans on the side of the road with a now fully functional NDV, please cut me some slack. I haven't gotten around to adding brakes yet, either.
You're right - it DOES feel good to get something back to or even above spec again, doesn't it?
