Blew out another scope on the GS950 springer. One was a UTG the other was a cheap Hammers 3-9x. The hammers optics are gone, a total blurred mess. It lasted maybe 1500 shots before it tore it apart. Not sure what cheap scope 120 and under can take the punishment. They both were "Spring gun ready" by the ads but they sure did not seem like it.And yea no way am i putting a $500.00 scope on a spring.
You can focus a Centerpoint scope to whatever distance you need by using this method.1. remove/unscrew front bell outer ring that locks the focus lens2. while looking through the scope turn the front focus lens until the picture becomes focused at the distance required3. carefully replace the front locking ring making sure not to move the focus lens when screwing back on (you can place your finger on the inside of the front bell to hold it if needed)I have done this with all my Centerpoints and Gamo/Ruger/Optisan cheap scopes to make them usable at 10-40 yardsI hope this helps clear up the fuzzy scope dilema.

Sure would save the cost of buying a $500 scope LOL!Ever hear of a scope warranty? With the UTG (and I assume Hammers) all that's required is a call to get a RMA number, send in the old scope and it will be replaced with a new one.Personally, I've had good service from my Leapers/UTGs with my .177 R9 and HW95 and the only reason I have a $350 scope mounted is because the optics are better for my purposes. Anywhoo........."irons are out of the question" for my hunter class field target matches because I couldn't even see a 55 yard killzone without optics, much less actually aiming at them and I'm certainly not going to go through all the expense and hassles of "the care and feeding" of a PCP plus either pumping or buying air to push the pellet!Cheap $70 Center Point mounted to my .177 HW95 worked fine.........Uploaded at Snapagogo.com$130 UTG Compact SWAT mounted to my HW95.......Uploaded at Snapagogo.comCurrently using the large and heavy $350 (no longer available) 3-12x44 Optisan Viper mounted to the HW95.........Uploaded at Snapagogo.comAnywhoo.....optics are required for my 70 year old eyes and I do swap scopes back and forth according to my current whim! The optics of the large/heavy Viper makes scope rangefinding easier, however I do prefer the smaller/ lighter 12x max scopes I use.Bottom line.......seems to me that your only options are "shoot irons" or put up with the care and feeding of a PCP if you want to use cheap scopes. As a side note, Hawke does supply some sub $200 scopes plus a stellar customer service!
Well...as my post stated, I am running open sights on almost all my guns now and happier. Either you like them or you don't. I put peep sights on almost every one of my guns whether they are home made or store bought, and now and they all group nice and tight.
I seem to be spending more and more time tinkering with scopes and mounts than I do shooting! One of these days I'll find the right combination of scope and mount that works for me, or I'll revert to iron sights like OP! I guess the one plus, with all the time spent changing mounts and adjusting eye relief, and focus, I haven't shot any of them enough to blow one out!
