Title: Disco Leak From Fitting Where Gun Is Filled - Can It Be Cleaned?
Post by: Snaab9-2 on December 05, 2012, 07:10:25 PM
You guys have any tips on how to fix this?  I tested it with soapy water and it was leaking from the fill fitting (not the threads but from the hole in the end).

IS there a way to clean it (I think some dirt may have got in it) or does it need to be replaced.

I had the same problem.  I unscrewed the fitting (after degassing of course!) then just used a little scotchbright on the seat (metal part) cleaned and dried everything and no more leaking.

Good ideas here from everybody.  It must be a weak spring and/or the valve seat is no good anymore.
Hopefully it its still within warranty, get ahold of customer service, hopefully they will just send you a new part and not ask y you to send the whole gun back.  Shipping the gun back (you have to pay to ship it back that us their policy) would cost more then the part so I'd want to avoid that for sure.

In the meantime I'd try cleaning the valve seat as suggested, also I'd stretch out the spring or change it so you can shoot in the meantime.  Even if this fixes it still go ahead and get the replacement.  Did it once it will do it again.

It must be a weak spring

There are a lot of weak springs around here!

There are no spring's in that fill valve, just a strut with an o ring on it. Unscrew it and take out the strut, wipe the seat that the o ring seats off in as mentioned, wipe the strut and o ring, put new sealant tape on the fitting and put it back in the gun. If it still leaks just replace it.

Thanks again guys.  I will call Crosman and try to clean the original piece.  It is leaking a bit faster than it was at first.

After a day it goes from 2,000 psi to nothing.

So you just unscrew the fitting and where the fitting was "inside of the tube", there is a seat that you can clean with a scotchbright pad.  I think I will give that a shot... and call Crosman.

It was pretty easy. Just don't damage the seal.
My valve had a little corrosion is why it leaked.  After the cleaning it worked great.

Thanks for the information guys, my Disco started leaking. Took the fill port apart, cleaned it up and, replaced the seal. Holding air again.

Side note, if anyone from Crosman reads this, the fill port adapter should be made of all the same type of metals. Mixing metals in a high moisture environment is a no no, add high pressure and temperature changes is a recipe for failure.

The fill inlet on any PCP will be the point of debris, contaminants, corrosives and pump goo entering the system from your charging arrangements.
Let me guess. Walmart Pump only gun with corrosive action at the fill inlet.
It isn't how could that be, but rather when will that be.
Yes. Dissimilar metals spark corrosion in the light alloys. Moisture, heat & atmospheric junk will conspire to shut your pump down and your gun if the gun is being heavily used in a moist environment and the pump is the primary air source. That is exactly what the Discos in Walmart scenario will lead to for sure.
That said it would be prudent to blow thru the fill arrangment to clear it before hooking the system up to the gun. You would need to dead head the pump outlet and bleed it after building pressure or blow backards from outlet to bleeder with a double male and an air tank/yoke.

It would be wise to get yourself a spare Fill Inlet as they are real cheap and they are not hard to fit. It would fall into thew category of a PCP consumable and just like fill port covers you will be gald you have it when you need it.

Corrrosion never sleeps but the placement of light matal to attract the corrosive forces rather than have them attack something like the tube is by design just like a Boat motor has a Light metal Zinc fin to attreact the nasties and keep them from attacking stuff that costs more.

Frequent and dileberate bleeding is the ONLY chance Pumps have of sneezing and blowing the junk out so it doesn't wind up in the gun. That means more work pumping it back up. Oh Joy! A work out. Tell a friend. Mixed Tank air and pump air can really help this scenario. If you shoot more than 20 rounds a day in a moist environment with the pump as your primary air source you will be a candidate for grief.

Nope not from Wally, got it from Airgun Depot.

Agreed I'd rather have the fill port leak rather than the tank blow out. However, the tank was coated with a nice layer of antioxidant from factory so no issues after a year there.

The main issue with the fill port is that the housing and plunger that holds the o-ring are two different alloys. This just speeds the process of corrosion up way too soon.

I'd love to see them put a dehumidifier pack on the pumps or even sell it as an option to add later. Would help with the life of the pump and the gun for sure.
