Title: bnm shrouded disco w/7" airtube extension *updated*
Post by: MustangMike on June 01, 2012, 08:44:54 PM
the extension i had made when i had my spare disco airtube chopped for my carbine build was delivered today. the make of this also made a coupler i dont have a picture of that allows the airtubes to butt up to each other and is sealed by 2 90duro orings one on each end. its 7in long and i believe it added about 35ish% more volume to the airtube, the coupler looks like it had a 1/4 hole through it, but im bad with the eye ball measurements so thats a very ruff guess.

i have not chronied it yet, that may take a week or 2 unless i can get the lighting in my garage good enough to chrony it in the garage. im expecting that for EXAMPLE if i get an even 15 shots in the 4% window called the sweet spot. this should add around 10-15 shots to the that.. now exact shot count cant be determined until i chrony it but i do plan on just dry firing it from 2000 down to 1000 and just count how many shots that took to get a better idea.

the reason for this is clear in the pictures, with my 27in bnm shroud the shroud sticks out 8inches past the end of the airtube. the fill adapter and cap when installed burns up about an inch of that 8 inches. leaving a unused 7inchs of nothing. when my carbine tube got chopped the drop off was 7 3/8, perfect for the idea of this. i love how the shroud and airtube line up now, the front face of the fill adapter actually its an 1/8 - 1/4 behind the end of the airtube. i was going for a flush finish but i think this more.

if i can get 30shots in my sweet spot thats 3 mrod 22cal mags, i will be a happy camper. or it wil lbe tuned to burn the added air volume up with more power and a stock shot count

the hole measure about .34"

and last but not least a bad picture of the airtube extension and everything else installed, the katana stock is in the raw right now. still have been lazy and havent taken the palm sander to the grey painted area to finish sanding down the cheek rest for right handed shooters. since i lefty and i dont share my rifles very well it gets a lefty only stock

um i think its pretty much a mrod.. lol but it costs a little over twice as much to build, thats the funny part.

ive decided im going to attempt to setup some lights in the garage and chrony it this weekend. im super stoked to have it installed and its been sitting at 1900psi for a little over 2hrs with no leaks. the barrel band in the after pictures above is position directly over the joint of the 2 tubes, so im going to be needing to get my hands on 2 more barrel bands. its a looks thing, one on the end, one over the joint of the tubes and on further back in the inletted cut out for the normal crosman barrel band thats on the katana stock..

my disco has turned into a benched long range target shooter, carbine is the power house hunter. the parts are lite weight and no noticed difference in weight balance but its shot off a bipod 99% of the time so it doesnt matter.
I MIGHT EVEN DOUBLE TUBE IT WITH A DOUBLE TUBE KIT THAT HAS THE 2ND TUBE 7" LONGER FOR A SUPER DUPER MASSIVE SHOT COUNT. it will be a hand pumpers worset nightmare

Looking good. Let's see some pics in the stock.

my katana is currently sitting naked in the garage awaiting me to stop being lazy finish sanding the cheek peice off the left side so its a full time left handed shooter only. then its being painted a satin grey, at some point i will send my airtube and extension out to be cera kote'd black for a nice grey/black look

ive been telling myself im going to do it this weekend since the cheek peice is about 40% sanded off. its just to the point of having to start working it into a smooth oval shape while sanding to remove the rest of it. if i mess up it will look bad and i dont want to drop another 115 bucks for another katana.

I am looking forward to seeing the finished product. It's gonna look sweet.

Mike that looks like it will shoot from your place to Canada. Way cool, heck half the fun was modding it. As my partner says "it's only money" and my wife says "better than spending it at a strip club".

i hope so, the og plan was a green stain with everything else black. but the stripper i used stained the wood so deep im concerned with destroying some of its lines in certain places so im poting to paint it now.. but the stock will be grey and the breech, shroud, airtube, bipod, recoil pad etc will all be black, with the only chrome/polished part being the bolt since sergio doesnt offer any different bolt styles

lol thanks man, shot count is a bonus i was more looking to close that gap with the long shroud. the plan is a lothar barrel cut at 25.5" so thats a inch longer then stock, that allows me to dial back the air per shot but keep the same fps because the longer barrel gives more velocity and if norm can source some decently priced left handed thumbhole stocks i will be adding one to the disco and calling her done.
unless i decided in a few months to have that super long double kit made for me, lol 60 shots at 30fpe mrod eat ur heart out on that power to air ratio

i wish there were indexing marks by crosman on the airtubes to assure the barrel band is aligned properly on the airtube so the barrel shoots straight down the middle of the airtube. just a random thought

Hey after your help with my disco and holding an m-rod in my hands......I am way happier with the disco. I'm sure Norm will find you a lefty stock.

im a run what you brung kind of guy, all i could afford was the disco pump combo but i wanted a mrod. so i started off as usual with the under dog and built it up to run with the big dog

Ya but its a lot cooler beating the big dogs with an underdog. I spent a lot on rc stuff only to find out I like the 3d foamies. I was on the same path here. I still want a new mustang, but I only have a few more years till I retire so I guess I will stick with my 99 z untill then. Its still fun and thats all that matters. I used to love kickin butt with my 79 stang with a 68 or 69 302 in it.

if you want a new stang the 2013's are the best looking modern mustang since the 99-04 body style. hopefully in a few years ford has kept the over same design as the 2013's

Yup I went to ford dealer when I was at yearly acadamy training. Very tempting lots of different choices from basic gt(which i like) to shelby at dealer. Just not time yet I had to get new dd last summer and I want to get my house to where I want it. Then I sell, retire and move down south and get my mustang (still keeping z28 it is a fun ride).

looks cool mike. if your happy with it and it shoots up to your expectations, then it was all worth it. also it won't be just another disco. that's worth something. ;D ;D

my toughts exactly, now if i can stop yawning and get out of bed and out in the garage to finish sanding the cheek peice off the stock for it so i can get her painted tomorrow and everything back together

so i got out and tested for shot count with the extension i wasnt able to use my chrony so this was purely for shot count

starting fill at 1950-1900 psi
ending fill at 950-900 psi
30 shots, so 3 full 10 shot mrod mags.

might have a problem, i think when i degassed it for the extension installed i didnt remove my hammer spring guide so i think it didnt seat properly and is adding preload i didnt know about. so i gotta check that i have no power adjuster installed, using stock disco spring with a muzzle mack hammer spring guide only and that only adds maybe 1/16" preload.

i was expecting/hoped to be knocking the door for 40 shots per fill, i know i said id be happy with 30 shots per fill but if im getting 30 shots odds are im going to have to chop 5 or 10 shots off that to stay with in 4% window we all shoot for so why i think something is wrong because im barely getting above a stock disco with no airtube extensions shot count

It's more like beating a big block Ford with a tuned small block Chevy....... :) ....lol

LOL......... :)
I'm not sure Mike ..... Lately I've just been topping it off a lot and not shooting it down. Truthfully, I've been shooting the 2400 most of the time.....

I've got the RVA tightened up pretty good and shooting the 18.1 JSB's... I got some pretty nice 50 yard groups too by the way....
