Just received a .25 cal. Marauder from a friend. The gun was given to me after he found it to be defective out of the box. It was sent back to Crosman because it would not hold pressure. After several weeks I got the gun. When it came time to lap the scope rings, I realized my new scope has a 30mm tube vs the 1" tubes I've used in the past. My package arrived at the Post Office mid morning so, after work I ran downtown expecting to pick up my package, only to hear that the person who was supposed to unload the pallet did not show up and no one there would open the pallet to retrieved my package. I thought I was going to go "Postal" but kept my head and walked out empty handed. Looking at my new gun I noticed that not only does the gauge look cockeyed, it is not showing the correct pressure. I checked it with my .22 cal and the gauge on my scuba tank. Hopefully Crosman will send me one that functions. I don't want to mount my scope without lapping it, as I learned the hard way, it is easier to ruin a scope tube than you think. Even if the rings line up it is possable to egg the tube by over tighting and not torquing to screws to the proper setting. Personally I have a history over tighting screws. They don't call me "one more turn Rod" for nothing. I was just wondering how much does lapping affect accuracy on average. Given these QC issues, why take the chance.
Nice job Nced. Never thought of evening out the rings with JB Weld. Anyone attempting to duplicate must remember to follow your steps to the tee or they will have a one piece scope/mount. JB weld can be used to repair engine blocks
I use regular CR bar. Just wrap it in a oil rag. Don't worry about surface rust, just steel wool it and clean it with mineral spirits.
Remember, when you point the "too much time on your hands" finger at another addict, 3 are pointing back at you ;-) hahaha
