Project Oogie Boogie
«

This is the thread on my Oogie Boogie 2300 bottle build.
It started out with a second hand 2300 tube that has the name Oogie Boogie etched into it and a dream
Not knowing what Oogie Boogie is, the tube was about to be sanded, polished and painted.
Chongman sent me this link telling about Oogie Boogie. If you have kids, you might already know or if you like watching these kind of movies.
http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Oogie_Boogie
In order to use a hpa (high pressure air) tank on the build some parts had to be ordered and custom work had to be done to the tube. The threads for the fill adapter/co2 cap had to be removed via a lathe and mounting holes had to be added via a milling machine then tapped. In all fairness the threads dont need to be cut off.the reason why I wanted them cut off is,there is a .003 gap between the adapter and inside of the tube without the threads. With the threads still attached there is a .30 gap between the tube and adapter because the tube has to be bored out to tap the threads for the co2 cap.there is more wiggle room and that not a good thing when using hpa.More meat is more strength and less wiggle room.
An order was placed to jdsairman for the tank adapter.A QB79 tank adapter is available at half the price of the JDS adapter. There is one critical issue, the mounting holes are close to the edge of the tube and some catastrophic failures have been attributed to this fatal flaw.JDS came out with a similar adapter with the mounting holes further away from the end of the tube, giving the adapter much more mounting security. There is actually four mounting holes on the JDS adapter with two very close to the end of the tube like on the QB79 adapter. Those two holes will not be used,IMO two mounting bolts wasn't enough.A third hole was then milled in the top of the tube and adapter and tapped for added security.
I don't have the tools or knowledge to mount the adapter to the tube properly.I commissioned none other than Lloyd-ss, the commander and chief of airgunlab.com
http://www.airgunlab.com/
and member of GTA.
If you don't know who Lloyd is,I can tell you this much, he is the guy who developed the valve for the Benjamin Rouge.I saw the videos of the guns he has made, which include big bore airguns. If you google him, you will see the awsome creations he has made. After a quick exchange of pm's with Lloyd the tube and adapter was in transit to him.
To get Oogie Boogie powered up, a power source was needed.Still undecided if the fuel was going to be air or co2,I opted for a Discovery valve because of its duel fuel capabilities. The tube has to be sealed between the valve face and the adapter for proper use, the Discovery valve does just that.I had a Discovery valve in the parts pile, but couldnt locate it.After a few searches I gave up looking for it.I then contacted Lloyd and asked him if he had an extra Discovery valve,he did.
The tube isn't set up for a Discovery valve,so some more custom work had to be done. The Discovery valve has three mounting points. The tube only has one.Two more holes had to be milled into the tube, each hole being 90* from the other. In order to mount the breech to the 2300 tube, which happens to use the old breech bolt location,a flat was also milled into the top of the valve to clear the breech bolt. All I can say is,Lloyd did an outstanding job on the milling. When I mounted the valve in the tube and added the transfer port gasket,a perfect circle could be seen within.A stock Discovery tube and valve wasn't centered like that, perfection!
The Discovery valve and JDS adapter use a standard type bolt to mount them.Lloyd was nice enough to include some far superior, high strength alloy steel, little 8-32 low profile socket head cap bolts. They are a perfect fit compared to the stock bolts that come with the valve and adapter. They look a lot better than the stock bolts, too.Along with the superior bolts,Lloyd also included some extra o-rings.They are 70 Durometer and 90 Durometer Buna-N,I am assuming.
The difference between the two types of o-rings is the hardness. The 70 Durometer being softer than the 90 Durometer o-rings.The 70 Durometer o-ring is easier to install than the 90 Durometer o-ring because of that. Both will be adaquate for sealing the tube with the 90 Durometer being able to take on higher pressures without failing. From past experience, I had 70 Durometer o-rings fail when the pressure got to high, can't remember exactly what the pressure was when the failure occured. The 90 Durometer o-rings held up to a 5000 psi fill without failing, that's one time I wish they did fail.
This is the beginning of Oogie Boogie.More will be covered as the build progresses.Still to come is the air supply, trigger group, breech and barrel.
thanks for looking!
ED
Hopefully you made it through the post without falling asleep, getting side tracked or just plain ol' bored. If you have any questions feel free to ask
ill post better pics when i figure out the camera setting

got around to testing it for leaks.its holding up with co2
i did something wrong when messing with the hpa ninja tank.it blew the 1.8k burst disk.i think i know what i did just have to break it down and look it over.
i originally bought the .25 m-rod barrel for it.but i think it is better suited for .22
a 16" .22 crosman barrel with custom permanently mounted ldc will be used,i think i just heard a mouse fart
. since i dont have any other .22 guns and some good ammo to go with it.hopefully i can get it regulated right to send predators, crow mags and kodiaks down range with authority.
speaking of the m-rod .25 barrel it is a nice piece of work.it has the crown i have been wanting on a barrel for a long time.still trying to figure out what breech i want to use

thanks!
its been a rocky road so far but im up to the challenge.
the jds adapter doesnt have a bump inside to release the air/co2.its designed to have the pin and spring removed from the regulator.which means i couldnt fill the tank unless it was on the gun.i get the tank filled at a paintball shop.im sure it wouldnt matter if i took the whole gun in thats more than i want to haul around outside of shooting it. solution inline on/off adapter.the tank is a 13ci ninja tank i want regulated between 1400psi-1600psi.i used some instructions found here on increasing the output pressure of the ninja regulator.its not hard to do if you follow the instructions, which i messed up on somewhere along the way.the 1.8k burst disk blew while filling the tank which means the regulator is not working properly.i think somehow i have one to many belleville washers in there just gotta figure out where.the supplied stack order shows 11 bv washers i think there is 12.i know i bought 12 washers could have gotten away with buying 11.i have to check the extra tank parts bag to see if there is an extra bv washer in there or not.i know there is 2 red shime and one silver in there but dont recall seeing an extra washer.if thats the case the only thing i can think of is some friends stopped by while i was adjusting the regulator and i lost track of what i was doing.again i could swear i triple checked the order.the same thing happened while i was looking for my discovery valve.looked and looked couldnt find it.when i was looking for a steel breech i found the valve in a box i could swear once again got checked.instead of having a bunch of different boxes for airgun parts im going to get a tool box with multiple drawers to store my airgun parts and airgun tools in.
all n all the project is coming together.
right now i has an air source tank hooked up to by way of a paintball adapter and in line on/off valve.left the on/off adapter on to see if the co2 leaks out .wont check on it today but will check on it monday.hopefuuly it will still be full ,those as carts are spendy
pics to come !!

Keep at it. You may want to check the fishing section of your preferred store. Most have there stuff on sale right now and the plastic boxes with multiple (and often adjustable) partitions work great for project/spare parts boxes. Also I save ,y empty divided boxes from harbour freight etc for the same reason.
Even then I have to hunt for things occasionally.

i had a tackle box that used for my tools and airgun parts.they got stolen one day the garage was left open.i saw these guys collecting cans from recycle bins looked and saw they got to our cans, didnt think much of it until i couldnt find my case.then it struck me they kept looking back, now i know why.
i was looking at some organizers at harbor freight online,as soon as i can get out there im going to pick a couple up
still waiting on my breech riser for the build then it will be complete.
right now im on the ropes
do i get a pump? the whole reason i switched to hpa was so i wont have to pump
or
do i get a scuba tank? i have my old fill station for a j/k valve
a scba tank is out of the question, unless someone knows a cheap way to fill from them.i just can't spend a $150 on a fill whip.i could buy a ruger 10-22, marlin 60 or high point handgun for that price.$35-$45 bucks all i can get is a jennings or some variant of ,i can pass on that

well the gun is complete and functional.right now i hve it running off of co2 because i need to abjust the regulator on the ninja tank.
i have a .22 barrel attached until i run out of .22 pellets then i might get be switched over to .25 depending on the pressure it takes to get max performance.still need to run across the chrony.really dont want to know what he's doing on co2 since it's 45* out, probably a nice size loss in performance.somewhere i saw a calculator that adjusts for temperature
well here is Oogie Boogie in the flesh set up with orion camera mount.its a little front end heavy so i have to work on adding weight to the rear.having the camera on it is a new experience.i have a video of sight in with the camera.have to work on the focus

i finally got my Oogie Boogie buiild switched over to to my ninja 13ci hpa tank
i used rsterne's ninja regulator adjustment graph and instructions to mod my 850psi ninja tank to 1450psi
the coil spring was changed over to belleville washers and stacked according to bob's graph.at first i had 12 belleville washers stacked like this ))()()()()(( and a .020 shim well that was too much for the 1.8k burst disk and it blew out.i put a 3k burst disk in there but the paintball shop said they wouldnt fill it with the 3k disk in place bummer
i ordered more 1.8k disks but 3k disks showed up
back to the drawing board i went back over bob's graph and settled on the same stack order but no shims
to make sure i know exacly how much pressure the regulator is putting out i made a regulator output pressure reader
now i still have the 3k burst disk in place and removed the the shim but left the bv washers shacked in the order of the graph. i took the tank to get it filled, the guy filling it looked at it the only thing he cared about is the hydro.he takes it into the backroom i wait to hear the loud hiss of a busted disk but nothing whoo hoo
he comes back gives me the warm tank and i leave.by the time i got home the tank had cooled off so i hook it up to the inline on/off adapter and then mounted the output pressure reader turned on both asa valves and the needle start moving it went to 1450psi and stayed there yippy
the out put pressure is right where i want it
mounted the tank up to Oogie Boogie and turned on the asa valves a slight hiss the gun was filled.
i ran a few pellets through and what a difference 1450psi makes over 650-850 psi co2 pressure.the impacts are a lot quicker and the gun now has muzzle flip despite the heavy tank and thick walled custom brass ldc
gotta to run it accross the chrony today and do some pest removal
i would like to thank rsterne for providing some valuable information.it is valuable in more way than one.i paid $70 for a 1450psi regulated ninja tank if i was to buy that same tank from a vendor it would cost me literally double that
so i saved money and gained valuable knowledge
i would like to thank lloyd s-s for providing the service to make this build possible.i waited 2 years to make this build a reality
well here he is in the new found flesh i present Oogie Boogie
hopefully i can provide some footage today of some pest removal

Great setup.
thanks!
i left the asa on/off adapter half off the other day which degasses the tube and adapter when fully off being half off the gun kept filling and degassing until the tank emptied
good that comes out of this is, i can change my valve to the highly modded but i dont know if the 10-32 screws will fit the mounting holes if not then i'll stick to the stock valve
afain reading rsternes threads gets the wheels turning
