Daystate Huntsman XL vs Air Arms S510 Xtra FAC PCP Carbine
« on: July 06, 2012, 07:49:05 PM »
Anyone compared these two carbines closely in .22? I am headed to an Air Wolf in .22 I think but decided to give these carbines a look first. I see folks adding LDCs to the Huntsman XL. Are they loud with the stock shroud? Let me know your experiences with both.

I've the AA S410SL carbine....and it's pretty loud on high power.  A few members here have the regular length barrel and say they're very quiet.  I guess the PCP carbines in general would be pretty loud on high power.

Thanks. The specials on the Huntsman XL being run include the Airstream CF permanently installed. I bet that helps some.

I have the huntsman and its airstream does help tame it a bit.

Those shrouds are quite small really due to the diameter. In UK people usually add moderators to 12 fpe 510 carbines to make them quiet. IMO it would be easier to get a shroudless gun and just add a good moderator if you want it quiet.

How is accuracy at 50 yards? Shot count 25-27 w/ .22?

Accuracy is excellent. Easy to shoot 1/2" groups at 50 yards. I get about 28 shots  before poi drops, but thats because I have the Classic model, with the shorter air tube. Get the XL with the larger air chamber and you can get several more shots.

By the way, if you do get a huntsman, go to Jim at Precision air gun and supply. He is excellent to deal with !

Thanks. I wonder if Jim changes out the shrouds if requested (I see they are semi-permanently glued but I am looking for real quiet and carbine)? Why go shorter tube (I see a lot of folks pick the shorter tube)?

I kind of like the thumbhole AA 510 Carbine looks. I guess I could have one of NCs LDCs added. VarmintAir seems to like this gun a lot.

Jim install a Huggett shroud on my .25 cal Huntsman. It tamed it quite a bit.

I have a Huggett on my .25 50 fpe Air Ranger and it is quiet enough for back yard duty. Now I am really down to the Huntsman vs 510 and both seem to be of similar very high standards as expected. The 510 seems to weigh a bit less and offers the thumbhole stock. It also has adjustable power.

Marauder23, Im confused.  I thought that you already had a AAS510 Carbine with a thumbhole stock in .22 cal.  Are you just asking for more info on the Huntsman compared to a AAS510 Carbine from people that own both?

Love my regular length AA S510: very quiet, stupid accurate, great bluing and finish, sweet and easily adjustable trigger, and the adjustable power that is very handy at times. Whats not to like it's simple, reliable, effective, and looks great while doing it. Cheers  ;)

This is too funny. This thread is over a year old (July 2012) when I was deciding on my AA S510C. Some Newbie got on here with a post and I was responding to him that he posted on the wrong thread with something that didn't make any sense. I still have and love my AA S510C! I am looking for a 30 cal bullpup though for my next purchase at the moment. It will be the FX Bobcat, Cricket 30 or Matador 30. They are just coming out (in 2013 lol).

I just got my new Air Arms S510 in walnut stock. What a beautiful rifle. My new Huntsman Regal comes in 2 months to USA. Since I will have both guns with same Hawke scopes. Will do great comparision. Thanks to UK for such great air rifles. Don Grim USA Austin, Texas

Hi marauder23, ive owned my huntsman xl .22 for over ayear now. Its extremely accurate ,sub .5 inch groups at 50 yards & .8 inch at 75 yards. Beautiful gun and great for taking small game. I would not consider it backyard friendly though if you live in a subdiv. She has a pop! U can get hugget system for it but thats around $300 or so. I have no experience with air arms. Hope this helps.  K-man
