Monster QB transformed
«
on:
September 20, 2010, 10:08:50 AM »
It started here....
Then grew to this...
and mutated into a monster hunter.....
The stock is done in a oil paint and tung-oil mixture. The first coat with the mixture took a really long time to dry. The following coats were tung oil only and I was able to get a coat on early in the morning and another before going to bed.
I hope you like it. I do!!!
Here's the original thread with numbers.....

Nice shooter transformation! Stock looks fragile though with just little wood supporting the stock. I will be really cautious on handling for I might end up with a pistol QB. ‹(•¿•)›

Thank you!!
The stock is much stronger than it looks. I wouldn't want to use it as a baseball bat, but it will be fine under normal use.
I do want to add a 1/2" threaded rod through the center of the thin part. I figured that it and gorilla glue would make it strong enough that I wouldn't ever have to worry about it.

Thank you!!
It's been a long road. Two months of changes and testing and over 1000 pellets later I got the power up to where it is now.
I picked it up from a friend, but it was custom built and had exchanged hands one time before. Check the pictures out above where it started and the link of where it came from. It's just parts though and nothing you couldn't put together. If you can put a band aid on then your halfway there!!
Here's what it was putting out when I picked it up.

I wonder how heavy I can go?
Actually if I want to use the magazine I'm limited to 28.5 grain Eunjins. They fill the mag with no room to spare.
The 32 grain Eunjins are just too long for the mag The entire cone sticks out.
If I removed the mag brackets and made it single shot, I could use them with no problems.
I measure the mag at .375" and it's still able to turn with the 28.5 Eunjins that I measure at .389"
Here it is at 2900 and 2800 psi
21.1grns = 54.06 fpe
25.4grns = 57.55 fpe
28.5grns = 59.99 fpe
32.4grns = 61.71 fpe.

what all is done to your TF89? is there any mods/tunes?
Not a thing!! Totally stock!!
Rickster - It's much stronger than it looks, but I'll end up drilling it and gluing in a threaded rod or a copper tube. I might even try to figure out a way to store pellets in it.
JonnyReb - Thanks J very addictive!

Blame the summer heat for more testing and numbers!!
I decided to use my down time to break the QB down and make a hammer debounce to conserve air, extend my shot count and lower the power levels for it to just shoot Kodiaks and JSB Monsters.
I have a 308 Condor on order that will be dedicated to killing midsize to larger game so that is why I decided to take the QB Monster down a notch where I can use it more.
I tested several combinations of felt, rubber and brass washers until I found a combination(rubber/brass/rubber/brass) that worked the best for me and kept the hammer slap noise down.

It's also near silent with very little hammer noise now.
I'm very, very happy!!

I'd be interested in doing some efficiency calculations on your gun.... If you know the volume of the air reservoir please post it, along with the pressure at the beginning and end of the shot strings....

I'll look at my notes and measure the tube when I get home. Maybe you can come up with the cc of air from that. It's a short tube and limited on air.
