Decreasing consistency fps
« on: February 04, 2012, 06:41:21 PM »
Cracked open the scuba tank today and shot 3 ten shot groups with my Marauder today. Tethered, with the tank valve open.
1st up was CPHP 7.9 g---had a FOUR fps spread averaging 941 fps, and very tight 5 shot groups.
2nd up was JSB Exact 8.4 g---had a TWELVE fps spread averaging 929 fps, also very tight groups.
Back to the CPHP's---SIXTEEN fps spread averaging 941 fps, tight groups.
So I went from 4 to 12 to 16 fps spreads. No discernible decrease in air pressure from the source, and the gun shot great! Still, why the fluctuation in fps? Typically I say the gun was warming, or fouling, but that's obviously not the case.

This gun is great! It shoots two brands of pellets very accurately, extremely quiet for indoors, killer trigger set at mere ounces I'm sure. Inexpensive to buy, What's not to like? I'd like to try out one of the high-dollar imports just to see how they compare to this little bargain.

I also would really like to put it in a quality bench rest stock, but there's slim to nothing to choose from. What's taking so long? Or maybe nothing will ever be produced in volume eh?

I'd like that but don't know of anybody who could do the inletting, and I'm sure not gonna try it.

Any full service gun shop should be able to do it for you. A search should turn up someone close to you.

dollar for dollar you will be hard pressed to find anything that compares. accurate, quiet, amazing triggers (with a little adjustment), repeater, best customer service anywhere.  the nicer high end pcp's have nicer wood and better fit and finish, but don't always out perform the "lowly" mrod :D ;D  glad you think as much of yours as i do mine. ;D

Yep it's a great gun and I give it a hearty thumbs up! I see in your signature that you're sportin a Mueller target scope. What distances are you shooting with it?

i've yet to shoot it from a bench beyond 40yds on the mrod. plinking and free hand out to 60. i like it. i used it on a cz 452 .17hmr before that at 50 and 100. i am in the process of acquiring another cz 453 in .17hmr and it will go back on that gun. i will be looking for something to go on the mrod. ;D maybe a hawke.?

Yeah I have an Eradicator I use on rimfires at 50 yards. I think it's a good scope for the money, and I would use it on my Mrod but it won't focus down to 10 yards. I had a Hawke Eclipse 30 on my Mrod for about two days til I sent it back to Amazon because it was blurry at max magnification. I won't try another one.

if i get a hawke it will likely be a sidewinder 30. i've seen a friend of mines and his has very good glass. and i like the half mildot.  in the meantime i may use a bsa platinum i have from a rifle i sold. it's pretty clear considering. hard to look through about anything after the 6500 elite. :D ;D
