Feral Cats ... talking wild mean and knarly felines !!
« on: February 04, 2012, 06:36:41 PM »
No need in reminding anyone of PETA, Ethics or any other propaganda  :P .....
Is destroying / shooting of feral cats frowned about here in the Hunting gate ?

Or like most who must ... best to just say nothing at all to anyone ?

My personal feeling on the matter would be to say nothing at all.  I  understand the problem such cats can cause and I certainly understand the need and/or desire to remove them from your property.  That being said I personally think attempts at trapping them and/or having your local animal control office remove them is the preferred way to go.  If that's not feasible then I guess you have to do what you have to do but as for me I'd rather not read about it in the "Hunting Gate".

If it was easy it wouldn't be hunting it would be shopping.

It's been brought up many times over the years.  It is definitely a controversial subject.

I am with Jeff and the others, but also if it's anything illegal (which it is), you should not be posting it.

Perhaps best to leave the sage advice for future seekers. Good answers to a good question.

so here we go, you asked, i lost 3 cats when i was a kid to trigger happy neighbors who thought it was ok to kill anything that walked into their yard, just because  it's a living thing doesn't make it a target. and just because you may not brag a bout killing someones cat doesn't make it ok. so watch what you post here , just because someone  likes to shoot doesn't mean they like to kill. especially your neighbors cat.

I'm with brother Jeff and this is a Hunting Gate. It's sad that due to people not controlling their pet's the offspring done went wild. Find any means possable to legally take care of the cat problem. Ed

Feral cats, by definition, aren't your neighbor's cat.

Uncontrolled cats, feral and otherwise, go out to kill other livestock when they can. It depends a lot on where you live, but a predator is a predator.

And that is where this subject always goes off the tracks.

Get a grip !! .... When YOU OWN CATS and the feral Toms come attacking your cats irregardless of there sex, pee all over your doors. screens, cars, patio furniture, go threw the pet doors destroying your belongings and again get into cat fights within someones property Etc ect .... Yea, you got a problem !

Want a another Knee Jerk reaction ? .... those who presumably own male cats refusing to neuter them thinking it's not your problem typically are those who are the most careless, clueless and animal cruel .  Thats a fact !!

Well...I've have seen some apartments in my area where animal control refuse to take action no matter how many people complained. This problem was extreme mind you and they managed to develop a relationship and team effort with the local Raccoons. I say to each there own and I can respect the forum if it's not preferred. I have to asked the gentleman who lost 3 cats after the 1st was lost ,why would you allow your cats to roam in the danger zone knowing the outcome?

The danger zone? LOL, Well maybe his neighbors thought a cheap tin of pellets and a hi-powered air rifle was a more efficient way of handling the problem!!!!!!! As many have stated, don't ask, don't tell!!!!!!!!!

I like the SSS idea. There is one elderly lady a ways down the road from me that owns 15+ cats and let them live off the land, without feeding them. Throws em out in the morning, lets a few in at night. Sad to say, but I am thankful for the occasional coyote that comes through and cleans up a few. Once they start coming on my land, eating all the small game, and ripping apart my garbage, then we got a problem. I have yet to use deadly force, but I am not against doing so. Of course when I asked the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife about the feral cats that are destroying property, and whether their extermination was legal. Of course, it isn't.

first let me agree with motorhead about the spaying and neutering, and as far as letting cats outside, i would never do it now, the 60's were a different time , it was the suburbs, everyone around here let their pets run loose, dogs and cats,  obviously we never knowingly let our cats go into a yard where we KNEW they were going to get shot, that's just ridiculous. and by the way i read the title . I'm just not so sure one can always tell a pet from a ferrel cat. and i think one would have to be naive to think that the kid down the street who shoots and shovels really cares who's cat it is.

There's no honor to be had in killing an animal.  Any animal.  If you've got a problematic animal in your midst, like a feral cat that is causing you or your family some harm, then destroy it, but mind who you brag about it to.
