900 LB Boar, 340 Grain HP & DAQ 458
« on: February 03, 2012, 05:47:01 PM »
You may have seen this one already but my customer sent me a photo of his trophys
Huge hog estimated at 900+ pounds. It makes my hogs look like the three little pigs.
He is using a Stock DAQ 458 and my 340 grain hp. One shot took out the heart.

I would have to say it looks like it's been "Photoshopped" too.  Look at his right hand resting on the hog.  You will see a small line below where his fingers bend.  A 900lb hog would have been all over the news, especially if it was shot in the wild.

Also follow the fur outline around the head top to bottom .... you can see a holographic focus disturbance.

But that aside .... DANG what a pork sandwich !!

Nice picture but I'm not buying it either.

I agree with Harry, a kill like that would've definitely made the hunting headlines.

Nice try though.

Truth be known, it was probably a farm raised hog. But who cares. It's still a big chunk of pork. The OP made no claims one way or the other.

Domestic Hampshire breed hog, possibly feral.
My late wife's dad had a boar that weighed 800+, so this is really not all that outlandish.
He had several sows that weighed 500+ and at least one that weighed over 600.
Big, yes, but really not that out of the question at all.
Move on up past the 1,000 lbs range, then you're talking about something special, though.
Airguns...they're not just for kids anymore.

Ahahaha, thats a big Piggy. I have a bigger problem though .Thats swallowing the pic!!
The Dudes right hand is all pixelated under his fingers , and wouldnt you have expected Piggy's jaw to have slumped over the top of the supporting block a little , and for it's mouth to be shut , not open due to the weight of Piggy's head. Howcome that "wild" Piggy has two earmarks , which are identical.MMmmmmmmm.
Its an interesting concept though , I wonder if thats just where the pig chose to land and crashed and died as result , because they do fly ya know !!

Looks real to me. It's just a low res pic and when you blow it up everything is pixalated. Even the DAQ is all wishy washy due to the low res. It sags where it is supposed to sag and the head is propped up and probably has a stick in its mouth to hold open the jaws.

Is it burnt??

I have seen bona fide pictures of hogs running about that big and actually got to pet one (at a carnival side show - this old boy was huge), so I could allow that, yes, a wild hybrid tusker could be as large as that.  However, there does seem something a bit spoofy about this picture.  If your friend is 6'6" tall, the distance from the top of his head to his heart would be around one-third, say two and half feet.  IIRC, those DAQ's have big reservoirs and long barrels.  The gun laying in front of the hog seems a mite short by comparison.  Given depth of field, it should appear longer and not shorter than the man behind the beast.  Just saying that bit looks sort of suspicious at first glance.  BTW, if his gun has a 14" LOP, that hog would be about 7 1/2 feet long.   They can approach this size, as seen here.

One thing I'll add.  I knew a fellow who shot a not so big (but still very large) wild boar at point blank range with a .54 Lyman Great Plains Rifle loaded with a 450+ grain minie ball atop about 120 grains powder.  The boar, which narrowly missed him, collapsed thirty yards away.  Not saying you can't go after big game like this with an air rifle but you dang well should have some kind of back up, be it a .44 Mag or someone with stopping power.  One of these things turns on you, you better have a tree picked out, baby!
