...That Stoeger X20s is avg. 95db on airgunweb. And The Disco puts out 8 foot pounds MORE energy!  40 yards or more and the discovery will wipe the floor with the stoeger

If a Stoeger X10 is 96 db, and a Disco with 6.5" TKO is 93 db, then is it safe to say a Stoeget X20 S is quieter than both?!

It is possible that the x20 S is quiter but I wouldn't consider it as a fact. With a springer you have 3 things against you when it comes to noise. One is the air forcing the pellet out the barrel. This can be reduced with a brake or suppressor designed to do so. The second thing you have is the spring twang itself. No brake or suppressor is going to quite this down. Finally the third thing is deisling (sp? it's early lol). When that happens no brake or suppressor is going to quite a shot when that happens. Basically what it comes down to with a springer is if the twang is loud by itself, then a brake or suppressor is only going to solve half the problem. If I was able to totally eliminate the noise of just the air from my x10, I bet just the twang from the spring would be 90+ db. When I get home today I will wrap a few towels over the Barrel of my x10 and test to see how loud just the twang is. On a side note when I bought my x10 I almost got the x20 S but didn't wanna spend the cash at the time. I wish I did cause I'm so curious to test one!

Thats also ties in with the Crosman marketing of the gas spring,  they claim on the box a up to a 70% reduction in noise over a conventional spring.  But the "peak' noise spike is about the same, its the duration of the noise thats considerably shorter.

Mike... That is what it is called; it is written on the box, therefore I will refer to it as that.

I did a retest on my disco this time shooting a pellet. I got an average of just 93db! I also tested my stoeger x10 and that was averaging 96 db. That means the stoeger is perceived by the human ear as twice as loud as the disco with tko.
No disrespect intended, but I think you mean the 3 db increase is a doubling of acoustic energy, but perceived by the human ear as only a small increase in loudness?

Ok first of all there is a reasons why using certain words isn't the smartest idea.. different organizations watch sites like these and all u do when you use words like those is draw unwanted attention to the site..

Citysniper- maybe you need to read the rules, there is a thing in there about using certain rules. This place is nothing like the yellow forum and just because I asked nicely for a certain word to not be used doesn't mean its going to turn into the yellow forum..

Sorry about that you are correct. I had it backwards, been a long time since I talked about anything audio wise. 3db I wouldn't consider it a small increase, you can easily hear the difference. Now I think of it and if I remember this correctly, 10db is perceived as twice as loud.

I had no idea the S word was forbidden hear. Sorry about that and I can understand why. We don't need them hitting us for special licenses and tax stamp fees like they do on powder burners.

They won't hit us for taxes on them making those things and all that jazz is illegal. With the kid taking a pellet gun to school and all the other negative attention being brought to airguns the last thing we as a community of airgun lovers need to do is bring negative attention on our selves.. I wasn't trying to be rude just use another name like shroud, brake, ldc etc.

Also a texas congress man or whatever the guys standing is here in texas is already talking to the papers about new laws reguarding airguns. Just like the bill that failed in cali recently...

That's what I'm trying to figure out, I love the shrouded look but with their price tags of $100+ I want to be sure it will be better then the tko

Mike.  The more baffels and longet the shroud the quieter

Mike I fully understand what you're saying and agree 100%, but I don't think they'll grow suspicious of members calling an air rifle by its name.
