When I get tired of......
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:40:16 PM »
I have a nice little range in my backyard.  I use coat hangers that I straighten out to hang cans in the trees for casual shooting.  When I get tired of shooting them, I just bring out my Whisper and shoot the pop tabs off of them and let them fall to the ground.  It is the only rifle I own that can do it almost every shot.

Mine has a GRT trigger and a JM spring and Apex seal.  The guys in the shop helped me put it back together after  I couldn't figure out how.  It is just a delight to shoot, light, accurate, and the trigger is just fantastic!

It just kills me that the first break lever gun I bought has turned out to be my most accurate!  It almost isn't any fun to shoot because I can only blame the misses on ME!  :P

It's nice to have a go to shooter that can be counted on like your Whisper. My go to Gamo is a Cabelas Bargan Cave special, $79, that I did a little work on and ended up with one that is right on target when it needs to be. It's a Gamo 220. I have been through the insides and added a scope, basic stuff, cheap gun, shoots almost any pellet.

So far, in the 2 months I've had it, my.22  Big Cat is my go to. I do enjoy the .177 B57 bullpup from time to time. As for open sights, my .20 C series is the only option. The .177 B3 I have done some cosmetic work on so I may shoot that as a bottom feeder but the power just doesn't have it for hunting anything larger than pest birds. It will knock the heck out of targets and cans.

I have a gamo hunter sport that has been home tuned and grt trigger. It a pinpoint rifle. I have cut cards with it, split pellets adn shot corn kernals of golf tees. All on video on you tube and the old forum. They are great  shooters. But my 350 is my favorite and go to shooter. But its HEAVY! Almost 3 lbs heavier. Love to get the hunter and big cat out. Built the big cat for my daughter and we love it. Its got about everything done to it that you can do. I like my gamos.

Sounds like a bit of fun.
It's also fun to put up a couple of dozen golf tees with paintballs sitting on each of them.
Then, try to do some "drives" without even clipping the tees.
The visual of the paint rocketing skyward is nice, too.
Airguns...they're not just for kids anymore.

paintballs are .68 caliber... with a rifle that can 1/2 inch group at that range, that leaves you .18 caliber margin of error. and no, not every shot. but often enough to qualify. Give it a shot... any good springer that gets practiced on a lot will give you these results. and is easier when you prop them on golf tees... (oh yeah... and a good scope helps a lot...lol)

most of my shooting is offhand at a 30 yd range, or hunting. the best rest i get is the occasional tree or stump. lately i have been practicing sitting using my knee for support. I just can't seem to be able to reproduce the stock hold and cheeckweld with every shot.... but off hand is a breeze. also practicing for rifle silhouette matches helps a lot, as the only permitted position is offhand...

and i did not accuse you of saying so... don't have a dirty conscience. (why else will you bring it up?... ) does it really sound so far fetched? i mean a FT target at 55 yards is 40mm. a paintball is roughly half of that... if you can hit a FT knockdown at that range, a paintball floating 1 inch above the ground is not crazy hard... hard yes, but not impossible. Specially with a rifle that gets shot daily a good 2 dozen shots at a  9 chicken spinner (1/2 inch) at said 30 yard range...

yes. with a jan kraner modified trigger (pulled back and super light). the recoil is minimal, so much you can bench it without your hand supporting and it does not move.
