Evanix Blizzard S10 arrived and sent back
« on: August 25, 2010, 02:54:25 PM »
Opening the box

M-Rod and Blizzard together

Pulled the Shroud and took a peak at the insides.

Its threaded on the inside? I wonder why.

Bi-pod installed

Got the scope in today, man is it bigger than I thought. It is a leapers 6x24 56 AO on a medium mount. Side parallax adj with the big wheel.

I will get to some chrony testing, maybe this afternoon.

Okay, back story. I got this from PA for 509 used. It is in overall good condition, the barrel was dirty as were the shroud/baffles. A little Rem oil, brush and lots of patches and we are clean again. The baffles are not the same as the Rainstorm http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,1638.20.html . I had to remove some burrs from the baffles.  Of course it is raining outside so function test will be later.

Well, got my scope today and topped of the scuba tank. Set up the bench and put up new sight-in-targets. She is a shotgun. Well FOOT!! So, I pull it back apart and it seems like the pellets are hitting the baffles. The I got to looking at the barrel, its not centered. Hmmm, its loose. so I snugg it up and it gets worse. Okay. Time to pull the barrel, the threads are not in good shape almost like they were not cleaned up after machining. Also the O ring is crushed and after a closer look the barrel end it cockeyed.

The other thing was one magazine the pellets were so loose that they would fall out and the other one you had to seat them with another pellet or pen. So far I am not happy with the performance of this rifle. Of course it was to late to contact PA but that will be first in the morning. I am hoping that they will make this right, even a used rifle needs to be in working condition when sold.

Hi Carl,
Sorry to hear about the Blizzard trouble.  I had a similar experience with a Rainstorm.  I bought the .22 Rainstorm used from Pyramyd Air.  Heck of a deal, or so it seemed.  When it arrived I took it apart like you did to yours.  I had parts missing from the baffle set up and what was there was damaged.  Sent that sucker back without shooting it.  Pyramyd Air is good about that.

After thinking about it for a couple of days I decided to order another one.  I really liked the Rainstorm other than the obvious missing/damaged baffle parts.  This time I asked them to inspect the air gun before they send it out.  So time will tell I guess.  If it doesn't measure up, it goes back too.  I understand we should expect some wear but damaged and missing parts or otherwise major defects, I think not.

When I purchased a Katana from them some time ago I had to return 2 of them before I got an acceptable one.  I'm not a fussy guy but the junk Pyramyd Air sends out their door sometimes is downright shameful.  I think their policy must be, send them anything, if the customer doesn't like it he can send it back.  Not the way to do business in my book.   Ok ok rant over, sorry.   ::)
I'm not gonna shoot anyone with the pellet gun... Not unless I have to!

Well, got my RMA today and will be trading in for a Rainstorm. It looks like there were to many returns for the Blizzard. I asked for just a new barrel, but they don't have them in stock. One of the things that I did notice breaking her down was that the actual barrel was only 17". It was advertised as 27" I guess that the shroud counts as being the barrel. I would like to just replace the barrel on this and keep it. Does anyone know were to get parts for the evanix line?

It's a shame it turned out to be a piece of junk.  Pyramyd must be selling returned guns that had problems as "used".  They ought to be tested and repaired before being resold.

It has to be very frustrating to buy used rifle from a dealer who is known for that specific brand and get a turkey. Someone there is not doing their job.

Even more so that you have to send it back and buy something else.

http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/index.php/topic,18428.0.html

The referenced post above is where I put up some info on my Blizzard, bought from SwampHunter(Nikki) on the old forum. I am very happy with the rifle. No problems at all. I know it is adjustable for power but as he sent it to me I have not changed a thing. It is accurate. Shoots well. Is indistinguishable from the .177 marauder I have. After the .22 marauder gets here this coming week I will be able to compare the noise level and will post on it.

Currently I am shooting and shooting AT blackbirds in the sunflower fields. A kill shot is nice but as they mass in groups of thousands just shooting into them at a hundred yards and more scares them off the flowers which solves the problem of them decimating the crops. Scare them off and they fly away to another location. So, I shoot into them again and they take off once more. This is a LOT less expensive than propane boomers and cases of shotgun shells. North Dakota is the main grower of sunflower seeds in the US and it is one big cash crop here. I know I have nailed over 1,000 blackbirds this spring and summer as I have gonethrough three 500 pellet tins with both the .177 and the .22   and am getting about a 50% kill rate when shooting at the specific birds rather than just shooting to scare them off. Also a lot of gophers and ground squirrels in the mix as well as a few skunks, raccoons, two porcupines  and two coyotes. The Blizzard is a joy to shoot. Carl, I hope your new Rainstorm is as good for you as the Blizzard is for me. It is what I would keep if I had only one.

Well, the something else should be here on Tuesday. I can't seem to get as excited about it as I was for the Blizz, I will wait and see what happens with the new gun. A Windy City.

They are making it right, just that the rifle never should have left the store in the condition it was in.

My Renegade carbine arrived from PA with a broken stock - the rifle was pretty badly packed and its now a month and there is no sign of any replacement or claim! A friend just got an AR6 from them which had a broken lever which operates the double action and had patches of rust as well!!

I never buy a used airgun, or anything used in this matter, from a dealer. The best thing to do is to stay away from the evanix.  I once was itching to buy one so bad, but after doing some on-line research, reading posts, and asking questions I saved my self the headache.
