Which Chronograph ?

Greetings one and all,

Would like to get some input as to which chronograph the group is using.

Want to get a unit that I can check not only AG but other shooting toys.

Would like to hear both pros and cons on units.

I have a f1 chrony it will chrony up to several thousand feet per second, But it does not hook up to the computer or any printing device.

Just shoot then look at the screen, works well for me.Rob

I have an f1 chrony it just records the velocity and tells  you what number shot that is it.  works great and is cheap

Alpha master chrony computes stats for a single string with removable face. Beta chrony will store multiple strings with same set up. Both can be attached to a printer sold separately. Search PA. Regularly on sale.

Those of you with the F1, can you give me an idea how far away someone with very good eye sight can see the numbers with a 9X scope?  Is 50 yards possible?

I like the fact that it is $70 shipped from Walmart though the ProChrono sounds really good too... for a bit over $100 shipped.

the pro chrono digital will transfer the info to your cpu. almost all of them will read speeds in the 5000+ fps so you can shoot bow and arrow, center fire, rim fire, air gun, shot gun, paint ball gun. 1st biggest issues are correct lighting. indoors under florescent lighting will not work with out some additional lighting assistance. 2nd issue will be not to get too close for anything burning powder as the muzzle blast will effect the accuracy or will not read at all. The Pro chrono brand get good feed back from about everyone. i had one and it worked goo outside in sun, but i shoot alot indoor under florescent lights where it did not. plus mine wasn't the digital and i couldn't connect to my cpu to save and organize my data. if you get the pro chrono get the "pro chrono digital" so you can connect to your cpu. i'm going to try this one with the infared lighting option when i get enough $$$ saved up.

I have the Chrony F-1 chronograph and the ballistic printer that connects to the F-1 making it an alpha model. I also bought the LED lighting system to be done with any lighting problems. The F-1 reads from 30-7000 fps.

I too have a F-1 rigged up some LED lighting made from some cheap wall lights bought from a hardware store, found the plans somewhere on the net, works really good and was inexpensive.

When I go to the warehouse for long shot practicing, on 9x, I set up a target (plain paper) with a circle the size of a .22 pellet or marginally bigger and bench shoot at that, lets me know that I'm all lined up.

I'm pretty positive you could read the numbers at that distance with 20/20 vision or better, Just watch you don't shoot the crony, this is my second f1 chrony, The first one took one to the screen.Rob

Great info.  How big of an area can it read (like how many inches above the unit and how many inches wide).

rough estimate: maybe 3" wide to 1' or less high. shot needs to pass directly over top of the sensors.

Cool - that is a nice area/margin for error.  Aim a good 6 inches or so over the unit and do it on a day with no wind for thos 50+ yard shots. 

I have a thick piece of glass that might just cover up the display and still let me read it.... hmmm.... if nothing else it might really slow the pellet down - especailly if I was to put it at an angle.

For a chrony that hooks up to a computer, Do any of them work with a MAC? Or must they be a Win machine?  I gave up on Windows before Vista was due to come out and have been a MAC guy for the last four computers.  And though I can run Windows on two of my MAC's I do not like to do it.  Does anyone use them with a MAC?
