My New FX Independence Review (Part 1, link for Part 2 and a Video)

Well here it is. Part one of my new FX Independence review. I was sitting in my vehicle waiting for the UPS office to open as I had called the day before to have a hold put on the delivery of my new air gun and package of pellets. I had waited a good week and couldn’t, let me make that wouldn’t, be sitting at my house all day jumping up in the window like a dog does every time it hears someone walking down the street. I can’t stand to have to orbit in one place while waiting for something as important as my new FX Independence! I got out of my truck and went to stand by the door as it was only minutes before the door would be open and the long, skinny box would be in my nearly trembling with excitement hands. A gentleman walked by and told me that I could go in and I didn’t hesitate for a second. It took a few minutes for another person to ask if he could help me and I told him that I was there to pick up two packages. One was found right away, the pellets, and as all manner of bad thoughts ran through my head the cloud was lifted when I heard “Here it is!” That long slender box that had to be the gun. A quick once over and I signed where he told me to with the worst signature that I can remember! I was on my way! The man helped me to the truck with my packages as I use a cane and I opened the doors for him. The ride home was a blur and before I knew it I was home in an extra bedroom, knife in hand, cutting the tape holding my precious air gun. And then it was open! My first look at what I had studied about so much over the last few weeks.
It was my first look at the beauty and it was everything that I had hoped for. The scope was mounted and try as I might I could not find any dings, nicks or scratches. I took out of the outside box all the extras that had come with the scope and the extra magazine. I also found the butt pad and installed it with the one screw that holds it. This rifle looked so good to me.
This is one of many that I took. The next one shows the monometer that is huge and easy to read.
This one shows the cocking handle in the closed position ready to fire. Having six full power shots makes for some very quick follow up shots or multiple engagements as the gun is so quiet.
This photo shows the pumping lever that makes this gun so unique, the onboard pump!
This is the Pelican double scoped rifle case that I thought a gun of this caliber deserved.
This one shows the case with Indy in its new home!
The scope had been mounted and amazingly was almost perfect. It took just a few shots to get the scope close at thirteen yards.
I took it out to shoot at a .22 rim fire spinner and it flattened out JSB Match Diabolo Exact Jumbo’s at 30 yards!
These last few photos are of me getting used to the match grade trigger and adjusting scope to hit low so it would be on at 30.
The scope came with a side wheel, sunshade and battery. The scope is a Hawke Optics 6.5-20x42 SF IR with a 30mm tube.
I did do some preliminary chronograph work and it averaged about 916 fps with the best standard deviation being 4.79 fps with an extreme spread of 12.63 using the 15.9 grn JSB’s. I will be doing much more chrony work when I get my air tank and accessories. I will also do some more outside distance shooting. I will be searching out my guns sweet spot (which seems to start at 175 Bar, fourth shot)
I must admit that this is the best air rifle that I have ever owned and that I can only hope to be able to use half of its potential accuracy. It does shoot better than I can, that’s for sure! Well thanks for reading what I have so far and I hope that it answered some questions. I will have much more when I get my “luggage”.
Brett

Way to go, Brett. That is a great review for a beautiful rifle. Nice groups which will only get better as she becomes one with you. Believe me, I could feel your excitement.
Expecting lots more,
joe

Great introduction to your new gun. Looking good so far and I trust that it will get even better. I'll soon be joining you over there where it's darker. I got me an M-rod coming bro.

Very nice groups and a great looking rifle.
when you decided to go to the darkside you went all in.
The baggage will come in handy at the range/bench for sure. and i'm sure it will be nice to top off with on board pump. That is way cool.

i WANT A INDY SOOOOOO BAD
i dont blame you at all for going and picking it up, around here if you want to go pick it up it takes an extra day.. but when im waiting for a new gun to show up, im sitting at the pc which is next to a window and i have that window open and stick my head out every time i hear what i think is a big truck coming to a stop on the street..
did you have to carve out the foam padding in the rifle case ? if so you did a fantastic job with that.. i need to get a longer and deeper case for my disco since it has a 27in shroud and i want to have the foam padding custom cut for the rifle so there is no pressure being put on the shroud or scope..
please please go over board with the pictures in part 2
